They ran out of hay midday. I assure you they are NOT starving. I hadn’t replaced as they need to graze but are lazy. Yet this girl, Widget (alpha of the herd) has decided she’s soooo hungry she’s going to nibble on other things. 🤦‍♀️ That’s not what I had in mind…

Alpacas sound an alarm if they sense danger and it sounds like…a squeaky toy! Danger could be a wild animal, a neighborhood pet, a stray plastic bag or a leaf. They are prey animals and scared of almost everything. 🤣 We never found the culprit today. This went on for an hour.

My farm is not open to the public but my friends at Granite State Alpacas host visitors and do alpaca meet and greets! How cute is baby Pearl?! I was there for her mom’s shearing day three days before she was born and I got to see her when she was two days old. More babies coming this summer. Totally worth the trip!!!

I’m happy they’re happy. Sunny days.

We are so excited for our friends at Granite State Alpacas! The first of five babies arrived today. And I was lucky enough to hang with mamma during shearing on Monday. Welcome to our world, beautiful baby girl! Congrats to proud parents Stormy and Ace.

It’s a beautiful sunny day! In the high 70s. The girls were laying out in the field, but must’ve decided it was too warm and came back to the barn because the fan is on. 😂 Look at all those skinny necks! #

So thankful for a successful shearing day yesterday. My first floor smells like wet alpaca now as I’m drying their fleeces! Even on dry days alpaca fleece has trapped moisture which will need to evaporate so closing up the plastic bags too tight isn’t a good idea. Thank you to my shearers and my assistants!

My secret? A dog leash. We use a simple leash (or a rope) to gently guide the girls into the barn for health days. Now that I know what to do, force is simply unnecessary to get them to move. They obey as if the rope was a wall. Alright…everybody in!!

Apparently the alpacas aren’t the only animals on the farm today…
