A week late but these were our February egg stats. Definitely picked up toward the end of the month and the ducks started laying! Nice little ramp up into the warmer months. This month is already trending nicely and we are loving the counter full of eggs 🖤🖤

The last couple years I’ve been shoveling a little path from the coop to the front of the house so they can sit under the deck and enjoy snacks – while staring at us lol This year it finally clicked and for the most part they are actually following the path and seem happier about it. But of course when I go to document the line of birds, they start flying instead lol

Need help naming the females! We have two nameless ladies with their our male duck, Spike, in the middle . His name is from the previous trio that had Buffy names. Looking for names that are fun but don’t need to be on theme.

Do they have a giant pond they can swim in anytime? Yes. Do they prefer the kiddie pools? Absolutely! Maybe it’s the fresh water they like for bath time 🖤

Three new turkeys join the flock! Once they get older we’ll have some names and can make sure we have at least one male and female. They are red bourbons and grow a tad slower than the meat birds we had before. So these will be kept to breed and what we hatch will meet the dinner table. Can’t wait to have these guys roaming the property! 🦃

The incubator is starting to see some hatching! Welcome to the world, little friend!

The birdies were pretty happy the snow is melting. They were digging out their favorite bath spots and exploring by the pond. The guineas were especially happy as they do the least exploring when snow is on the ground.

🚨 New Ducky Alert 🖤
Meet Willow! She has the red band on her leg. This was her first day free ranging with the flock. We traded a male for a female to even out numbers between someone else’s flock as well, so we’re still a little trio here. She’s not so sure about the late evening patrol Buffy and Spike are so fond of lol

Girls are getting back into the swing of things! Currently we have 14 mature chicken hens which give us about 7-10 eggs a day. Jersey giants are not daily layers but more like every other day or sometimes two days in a row then a day off. We do plan to expand the chicken flock this spring back to having 20 total including our 2 roosters. Our duck should begin laying in a month or two and our guineas will start their laying season end of April. It’s just enough to sell and eat to make up feed costs most the year 🥚

Got all but a chicken and a guinea in one picture. Hen was laying eggs and Curly the guinea was giving emotional support I suppose, she always finds a buddy each day. The ducks are back in the pond with the ice currently melted but they’re always first to their pool feeder before the rest of the flock is let out. 🖤

Happy New Year!
