Our Mission
Food is a fundamental need, and God gave us the means to appropriate it. The Harvest Trail is about teaching and providing experiences for people who care about food, agriculture, and mountain homestead living. We will cover homesteading, farm-to-table recipes, policy and changes going on to our food systems, and offer many great experiences on the farm such as harvest parties, wild ga

me butchery and recipe creation, flower arrangements, crafting and more. We think it’s important for all of us to know where food comes from, how we can support local farmers and producers, and teach people how to grow their own food.

I brought baby rabbits to my hair appointment today.

I think we can all agree that whatever was on today’s appointment schedule became significantly less important. 🐰💕

Fired!!! Well, almost.
I almost cut campanula from the 2027 lineup.

Not because the flowers weren’t beautiful.

Not because the stems weren’t good.

Because I thought the market wasn’t there.

When the first flush came on, I didn’t market it aggressively enough and a lot of stems ended up in the compost. That’s a hard lesson when you’ve spent months growing a crop.

But then something interesting happened.

The tall greenhouse stems sold.

The shorter field stems sold.

The second flush sold.

And I started realizing that the problem wasn’t necessarily the crop.

It was that I was still learning how to market it.

Now I’m standing on my porch holding armloads of campanula and giving that 2027 crop plan a second look.

Sometimes a crop fails.

Sometimes a crop teaches you something.

And sometimes the farmer almost fires the wrong employee. 💜🩷

Thanks for the gorgeous plugs that started these out!

Summer. By a long shot. Keeping rabbits cool in the garage is a struggle. They produce so much body heat. We run two big fans plus one exhaust fan taking hot air out, and it’s still too hot for my liking in there. We don’t breed in the summer anyone because of this.

Which season is the HARDEST to raise rabbits in?
☀️ Summer 🍂 Fall ❄️ Winter 🌷 Spring

Drop your answer below, but here's the catch:
📍 Tell us where you're located
📝 Tell us WHY you chose that season

A breeder in Texas may have a very different answer than a breeder in Minnesota, Florida, or Oregon!

We're curious to see how geography impacts rabbit management across the country. 👇

This week in flowers.

Every night I tuck in the rabbits, the chickens, and the greenhouse plants. I take the long way around through the garden to soak in all the sounds and soft light. What a gift, truly.

Anyone spot the kitty 🐈‍⬛ 👀
Leaving my suit job 12 years ago was the right move!

Anyone else have a happy hindsight moment?!

Living, eating, and breathing the farm this time of year. You have to do this because you love it, that’s for sure!
