Our Mission
Food is a fundamental need, and God gave us the means to appropriate it. The Harvest Trail is about teaching and providing experiences for people who care about food, agriculture, and mountain homestead living. We will cover homesteading, farm-to-table recipes, policy and changes going on to our food systems, and offer many great experiences on the farm such as harvest parties, wild game butchery and recipe creation, flower arrangements, crafting and more. We think it’s important for all of us to know where food comes from, how we can support local farmers and producers, and teach people how to grow their own food.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way. And if you know my mom, you know she’s got plenty of both!

I come from a family of people who don’t sit still very well. My Grandma Eva raised five kids who know how to move, love, laugh, and get things done with a sense of urgency. That determination was passed down to my mom, and she passed it on to me. I’m grateful for it.

Watching Mom find ways to keep working on the farm, even from her walker and wheelchair, has been pretty inspiring. She gets bored out of her mind sitting around, so naturally, she’s figured out how to keep herself involved.

It takes a little creativity and some help getting her where she needs to go, but we’ve made it work surprisingly well.

A broken leg might slow her down, but it certainly hasn’t stopped her.

There’s something special about getting to show your flowers to the people who bring them into the world beyond the farm.

A few weeks ago we welcomed our friends from artichokes & pomegranates floral design out to Blooms & Bunnies for a farm visit!

We walked through the growing spaces, talked about how this little farm got its start and how much it has grown, and shared some of the regenerative and sustainable agriculture practices behind what we do.

But my favorite part is always getting to show florists the flowers still growing on the plants they came from. There’s a whole story behind every stem, and it’s fun to share that side of the process with the people who work with our flowers.

And because no visit to Blooms & Bunnies would be complete without meeting the other half of our namesake, we finished the afternoon sitting in the grass, snuggling bunnies.

Thank you, Artichokes & Pomegranates, for making the trip out and for supporting locally grown flowers. We love getting to share this little piece of our world with you.

We have an eye out for a buck to complete Vicente’s trio of mini lops. I can’t wait to see where he takes them.

I’m beginning to think there’s no such thing as an ordinary week around here.

There were appointments and buckets. Worry and celebration. Mud, new life, family, flowers, and a whole lot of figuring things out as we went.

Farming has a funny way of refusing to separate the hard things from the beautiful ones. Sometimes they all arrive in the same week.

And somehow, through all of it, the flowers just kept coming.

I kept thinking I needed to post something. Then another day would go by, and there was simply too much life happening to stop and explain why I wasn’t posting.

Turns out, sometimes the story is better told after you’ve lived it.

These last two weeks have reminded me that this farm is so much more than what Starson and I grow here. It’s the people who show up when life gets complicated. The people who harvest, feed animals, care for your mom, change their plans, make you laugh, buy your flowers, come to your events, and somehow help keep the whole thing moving.

I’m tired. I’m grateful. The farm is overflowing. Mom is apparently interpreting “couch duty” very loosely. And September isn’t finished with us yet.

So, that’s where we’ve been.

Now back to the flowers.

Who doesn’t love freshly cut flowers? Our baby buns sure do!
We had a Blooms & Bunnies morning, mom made arrangements while some of our latest babies got to run around and play.
