It all starts with a big move, a trip to the Farmer’s Market, and lots of help and support from good friends.
… A wedding, a mortgage, a few freaked out dogs, and more than a few freaked out family members too. Because of the direction our farm has taken, I can not believe in accidents any more.
… Except perhaps the occasional gardening implement mishap
How else do you explain how one couple
’s bold move to a new state thousands of miles away from everything we have ever known culminating in a lifestyle choice that we hope will effect generations to come?
… It’s only a few hundred miles from where I grew up but I like the superlative a lot too. We moved to Idaho in 2007 with a simple desire to own some land, make of it what we could and eat some really good food along the way. Our first year we managed to grow a few things, namely some tomatoes- which was weird because I didn’t even like tomatoes!
… Ranch dressing, iceberg lettuce, Tortino’s microwave pizza and absolutely NO tomatoes, a bit of a culinary caterpillar she was. Immediately and surprisingly- but not accidentally- I began working for a family who are second generation farmers here. Gardening was a hobby and we did it primarily because we LOVE to eat!!! But after I tasted that first homegrown tomato, like so many others before me- I was hooked! Little by little we gained the tools, desires, support, and even plants we needed to expand.
… you forgot the bruises, scars and more than a few salvaged implements of the mechanical nature in various states of disrepair. Every year it changes, we learn, and grow and now we are evolving and ready to share our produce with others. Pardon the clichés and awful puns here- but this has all come about so naturally and organically that it is clear this is what is meant to be and we want you to be apart of it!
