Since then, we’ve kept homes warm, grown roots, and blossomed into a USDA-certified flower farm in 2025. We’re a family-owned, community-driven business serving Richmond and the surrounding counties — offering everything from firewood bundles to flower bouquets, grown and gathered with care. Stop by. We had the honor of putting together the flowers for the Sawyer Warriors Prom tonight, and seeing everything come together is pretty special.

Sunflowers, red & gold blooms, a little bit of sparkle, and a whole lot of love went into these. 🌻✨

🎉 Today we’re celebrating another very special birthday here at By the Roadside!

Our girl Sabrina turns 12 today! 🥳❤️

If you’ve been following us for a while, you already know that By the Roadside has always been more than firewood. It’s a family business which means our kids have grown up right alongside it.

They’ve watched the late nights, the early mornings, the wood piles grow and disappear, the phones ring nonstop when the cold weather hits, and all the crazy that comes with building something from the ground up. 😂

And Sabrina has been right there through it all.

Today, though, the firewood can share the spotlight because our girl officially gets the whole day. ❤️

It’s hard to believe she’s already 12 years old. We are incredibly proud of the funny, beautiful, strong-willed young lady she is becoming, and we feel pretty lucky that so many of you have watched our family and our business grow over the years.

This morning felt different.
I woke up and reached over to turn the fan off.
Pulled another blanket over me.
And somewhere between trying to get warm and convincing myself to get out of bed, I had one very important thought…
Tonight, I'm wearing socks to bed. 😂
Because there is absolutely NOTHING worse than crawling out of a warm bed half asleep and putting your bare feet on freezing cold hardwood floors.
And yet, when I looked outside this morning, there it was.
That thick fog hanging low over everything.
That cool, damp air.
That kind of morning where the world feels a little quieter and you can almost smell fall coming.
Summer isn't gone yet.
We'll probably get another hot day that'll have me questioning why I ever turned the fan off. 😂
But this morning felt like a little warning.
The cold mornings are coming.
The blankets are coming back out.
The socks are going back on.
And before we know it, we'll be waking up to cold floors, watching our breath outside, and hearing that familiar crackle of a fire warming the house. 🔥

🎉🪵 TODAY WE’RE CELEBRATING THE BIG 1-0! 🪵🎉

Today Sebastian officially hits DOUBLE DIGITS! 🥳💚

When we started By The Roadside back in 2019, this wasn’t really a “business” yet. It was just a little hobby, a pile of wood, and an idea.

And right there in the middle of it was a little boy who had just turned 4 years old, following Dad around everywhere he went. 🥹

As the years passed and that little hobby grew into what By The Roadside is today, Sebastian grew right along with it.

He started out carrying pieces of wood and following Dad around the wood pile. Then came helping split wood, going through inventory, riding along on deliveries, stocking the firewood stands at the end of the driveways, cleaning up and jumping in anywhere an extra set of hands was needed.

And now? He’s learning to work the firewood processor. 🥹💪🪵

Watching him go from that tiny 4 year old wanting to do everything Dad was doing to a 10 year old who actually knows this business, understands the work behind it, and takes pride in being part of it is something pretty special.

Our business was started because of our children to build something for them, provide for them, and hopefully one day leave something behind for them.

But Sebastian has truly been at the heart of it from the beginning. ❤️

These pictures get us a little emotional because they don’t just show how much Sebastian has grown.

They show how much we’ve grown together.

From following Dad around the wood pile at 4…
to working the firewood processor at 10. 🪵💚

Happy 10th Birthday to one of the hardest working little members of the By The Roadside family. We love you more than you’ll ever know, Sebastian.

There’s something beautiful about seeing what’s been growing quietly all these years. 🌳🪵

Every ring tells a story seasons of growth, harsh winters, hot summers, storms weathered and years gone by. And this one is a little extra special.

This is cherry. 🍒

Instead of simply becoming firewood, this cherry is headed toward its next chapter as premium cooking wood eventually fueling smokers, grills, and barbecue fires and adding that mild, slightly sweet smoke cherry is known for. 🔥🥩

From standing timber, to carefully processed wood, to the fire beneath someone’s next incredible meal… we think that’s a pretty beautiful second life.
