Many of you know Dory, our young Border Collie who helps us move cattle and is an important part of the daily operation at Roberts Family Farm.

On Monday, Dory suffered a serious accident while working livestock and broke both bones in her front leg. Yesterday, she underwent surgery with a veterinary orthopedic surgeon, who repaired her radius using a plate and screws. We're happy to report that surgery went very well, and Dory is now home recovering.

The surgeon expects her to make a full recovery and, because of her young age and the location of the fracture, hopes she will be back doing what she loves in about 10 weeks.

As you'll see in the photos, this serves as an important reminder that farms can be unpredictable places. Even for a highly trained working dog that spends every day around cattle, accidents can happen in an instant.

We are often asked if visitors can bring their dogs to the farm. While we love dogs and understand that many are well-trained family companions, situations like this are one of the reasons we do not allow outside dogs on the property. Between livestock, fences, equipment, crowds, and the unpredictable nature of farm animals, there are simply too many opportunities for a dog—or a person—to be injured.

Our policy is never meant to be unfriendly. It's about protecting your pets, our livestock, our working animals, and our guests.

We want to thank the incredible veterinary team that cared for Dory and everyone who has reached out with kind words, prayers, and support. She's already enjoying plenty of attention and will be spending the next several weeks resting, healing, and undoubtedly trying to convince us she's ready to get back to work long before she's actually allowed.

🎶 A Homecoming at the Farm! 🎶

A Sandwich native and one of the area's favorite musicians, Kenny will be performing songs from his latest album along with fan favorites during an evening of live music under the stars. There's nothing quite like coming home, and we're excited to celebrate Kenny's musical journey right here in the community where it all began.
