Ancient Japanese salad turnip with a slightly spicy, radish flavor originated in the Shiga prefecture in the 1400s. The long, slender roots will grow to a foot in length. Roots have bright purple shoulders and white tips, and are traditionally made into a quick pickle called sakura zuke, they also taste amazing raw or cooked.
