Mission: Your Salt Lake County Farm Bureau Board of Directors recognizes the challenge facing agriculture in Salt Lake County when competing in times of high growth and urbanization of our once rural area. DEVELOP policies that further protect agriculture at the National, State, County, and local levels of government. SPONSOR educational opportunities for the development of knowledge of the role that agriculture serves in the production of food, fiber, beautification, and safety. ENABLE members to receive services through National, State, and County sponsored programs and purchasing powers. We honor the privilege we have of serving as your Board of Directors and act responsibly in any appropriation of the revenues and resources that are entrusted to us.

Tune in tonight to the History Channel at 8 p.m. Mountain time to see #UtahFarmBureau's Brett & Jenna Madsen (and Jenna's Dad Scott) as they debut in the new show 'The American Farm'. One of five families being profiled in the U.S. to show what goes into producing food for all of us in America. Good examples of the many wonderful farmers & ranchers in Utah. #UtahFarmLife #NoFarmsNoFood #FarmBureauProud #OurYFR

Even long time Utah residents might not know where Chester is on a map. However, tonight, that could change. Here’s our story for KSL 5 TV on a new reality show featuring a farming family there.

Friends, I a friend to Farm Bureau is looking for a tractor for his family property at Bear Lake. He is just wanting a used tractor with an excavator on front that he could use to do basic maintenance on the property. If you know of something, please comment here. Thank you!

Celebrate Local Farmers at the Salt Lake County Fair Family FarmFest A “no-fare fair” for everyone

Salt Lake County, Utah – Celebrate local agricultural and horticultural skills and products at this year’s free Salt Lake County Fair. To make the event accessible to everyone, there are no fees for admission, parking, entertainment, or for most of the activities.

Highlights of this year’s Salt Lake County Fair include barrel racing on Thursday evening, Junior Rodeo on Friday and Saturday night, a movie in the park on Friday at dusk (Charlotte’s Web), and a hoedown to shut it down.

There will also be wagon rides, bike rodeos, field games, inflatables, dog shows, storytellers, cornhole competitions, and a petting zoo. Food will be available for purchase. In addition to entertainment, there will be free learning demonstrations and workshops from 4-H, Clark Planetarium, Salt Lake County Animal Services, Utah Spinners, and other local agencies.

"We are incredibly excited to showcase Salt Lake County 4-H'ers at this year's County Fair Family FarmFest,” said Meggan Schulze, Salt Lake County 4-H Family Consumer Science and Healthy Living program coordinator. “4-H'ers will be exhibiting their projects and hosting free, instructive hands-on workshops to the public.”

The Salt Lake County Fair gives local youth and adults a venue to showcase their skills in a variety of categories and is a stepping stone to competing in the Utah State Fair.

“We are seventh generation South Jordan residents and the fair is a part of our heritage and tradition. I have grandchildren participating this year,” said Desi Nelson, Salt Lake Livestock Commission President and Fair Advisory Board member. “Kids prepare all year to bring their animals to the County Fair. The competition is a celebration of their dedication and of our agricultural roots.”

Tariff war hurting Utah farmers and ranchers | KSL.com

A hard time for farmers right now in Utah. Already facing drought conditions and low farm incomes, recent spats with tariffs for other industries are making farmers & ranchers hurt more.

Check out this great story by Mike Anderson at KSL, with Davis County farmer Neal Briggs. We love the line that "it's better to feed them than fight them."

China’s move to strike back in a trade war with President Donald Trump has already taken a toll on prices for agricultural products in Utah.

Intro for Utah Food Stories

Have to give credit where it's due. This is a snippet of a GREAT video made by the folks at "Utah's Own", which really captures the spirit of farmers, ranchers and all those involved in our food system. It's more than food, it's connecting to one another. Enjoy! If you want to watch the entire 6 minute clip, visit the Utah Farm Bureau's page.

Great to have a traditional turkey farmer, a specialized direct-to-consumer berry farm, an urban farm, and an immigrant food producer all connected together. How are you connectd to Utah food? #utahsown #utahfarmlife #utahfarmbureau

Utah farmers' dreams drying up: 'We will run out of water'

Many Utah farmers & ranchers beginning to feel the impacts of the lack of snow this winter. While the effects can vary in various parts of the state, all can have empathy for those struggling to see how to get crops throughout the rest of the year.

How is the drought impacting your farm or ranch?

https://www.deseretnews.com/article/900021113/utah-farmers-dreams-drying-up-we-will-run-out-of-water.html

Much of Utah is in extreme or exceptional drought. Those areas without reservoirs storing water have a growing season that will end drastically early. Farmers are idling their fields and say the conditions are as bad as they have ever seen it.

Meet the latest allies in the fight against rural opioid abuse: the USDA, Utah Farm Bureau

Utah Farm Bureau participated in a roundtable discussion in Salt Lake County yesterday (led by Salt Lake County Farm Bureau board member Paige Norton), as a starting point for increasing dialogue about the opioid epidemic facing the country -- and especially in rural American and among its farmers & ranchers.

A starting point in this effort is to help those suffering and their families recognize the resources available, and to remove shame and guilt from this tragic situation. Please visit www.farmtownstrong.org to see some of the resources available. In what other ways can organizations and communities help with this problem in rural Utah?

As a growing body of federal health data points to the vulnerability of three rural counties in Utah for high rates of opioid abuse and overdose deaths, officials of the U.S. Department Agriculture and the Utah Farm Bureau are joining the fight.

Happy National Agriculture Day from the Utah Farm Bureau!

Today mark the 45th anniversary of National Ag Day, put on by the Agriculture Council of America. But really, Ag Day has been honored for generations by the farm and ranch families that give so much to bring us the great food and fiber we enjoy.

Thanks to these families, and all those involved (machinists, scientists, truck drivers, engineers, weather forecasters, seed salesmen, grocery store owners, etc.), that all play a role in helping us produce so much in this nation. #utahfarmlife

Celebrate Dave Bell!

David Bell was a great example of the first-generation farming spirit of determination and fortitude. He was a leader in the organic, urban farming world in Utah with his passion for growing food and community through his CSA and other ventures. This earned him the Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award this year in our County. For the last while he has been fighting a courageous battle with cancer and, tragically, was taken too early.

His family would like the farming community to know about this event to celebrate his life. Let's offer our support.

Texas Farm Bureau Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund

Alright Utah farmers and ranchers, and all of our members, whether or not you've ever been on a farm, or the only ranch you come in contact with is on your salad. Let's see how we can help out our fellow Farm Bureau members in Texas.

Looking for ways to help farmers and ranchers affected by Hurricane Harvey directly? Texas Farm Bureau has set up the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund to facilitate getting financial aid to those in need.

One hundred percent of the donations to this fund will be dispersed via an application process directly to farmers and ranchers located in counties that have been designated as disaster areas by the federal government for this event.

To make your tax deductible donation, visit http://bit.ly/TFBHarveyReliefFund.

Hurricane Harvey has put Texas agriculture at risk. The storm arrived Friday night, Aug. 25, holding nothing back, and devastated a large portion of the Lone Star State. Homes, barns and crops were no match for the high-powered winds, and catastrophic rainfall that flooded the region. Our farm and r...
