he expression "W*P" predates the Italian immigration to America. In the Kingdoms of Two Sicilies, the expression "guappo" had referenced to handsome young men who affected a sense of bravado. In Naples, "guappo" sounded like "W*P." From its true meaning, ruggedly handsome, the term began to decline in its meaning as it was applied to tough gang members, "The Black Hand" or Mafia hence the pejorative "W*P"
