2020 Kimsey White Blend

“Ripe apple, tart peach, and some floral and honeyed notes all emerge from the 2020 White Blend, a beautifully fresh, layered, balanced white that brings both freshness and richness. It's going to shine on the dinner table and is well worth seeking out. This is based on 50% Viognier, 30% Roussanne, and 20% Grenache Blanc.” - Jeb Dunnuck

Tasting Notes by winemaker Matt Dees: An elegantly aromatic white with notes of jasmine, pear, cinnamon, and fresh baked biscuit. The 2020 is focused and precise with remarkable fruit clarity. Candied pear and crabapple on the palate. Salty and long with an inner perfume of citrus zest. Gentle structure leads to a refreshingly vibrant and fruit-filled finish.

2020 Kimsey Grenache

“The 2020 Grenache is powerful, dense and wonderfully concentrated to the core. Varietal character is amplified in the way only few sites in Santa Barbara can achieve. Black cherry, plum, mocha, chocolate and licorice resonate across the palate, showing all of the natural radiance of the year. This super-size Grenache is going to need a few years to settle down. Even so, it sure is impressive today.” - Antonio Galloni

Tasting Notes by winemaker Matt Dees: Suave and seductive. Lifted incense and beautiful earthy notes alongside dark raspberry and cacao-dusted cherry. A bold wine from a bold vintage. Broad and dense mid-palate density with a lovely counterbalance of fine and dusty structure. Finishes long with a great breath of freshness.

2020 Kimsey Syrah

“The 2020 Syrah is remarkably elegant for such a big wine. Blue/purplish fruit, lavender, licorice, menthol and dried herbs all build effortlessly. Even with all of its intensity, the 2020 remains fresh, aromatically deep and vibrant. Kimsey is a special site for Syrah, as the 2020 once again makes abundantly clear.” - Antonio Galloni

Matt Dees Tasting Notes: Plum skin, brambles, black peppercorn, mulberry. Broad and complex. A soulful and sincere expression of the Kimsey terroir. Gorgeous creaminess on the palate. Fruit expands and coats. Powdered and lightly chalky tannins and a late push of spice extend the length to a perfect level. Full of dark fruit, pleasure, energy and finesse.

We celebrate this magnificent planet daily through our wine growing practice. Our vineyard connects us to place and soil, natural seasons and cycles, native flora and fauna, weather patterns, sun, moon, and stars, and we are ever grateful for all of these elements working together to create our reality (and our wines!).

We try to be conscious of our choices, putting the health of the land and our cherished vines first, implementing organic and sustainable farming practices that work in tandem with nature rather than against it.

We are all connected and our choices have impact. Here’s to honoring the one planet we call home, today and every day.

Kimsey Club Members were the first to receive our acclaimed 2020 vintage this week!

While 2020 was a challenging year between the pandemic and wildfires, it proved to be an exceptional vintage in the Santa Ynez Valley – our vineyard included. As winemaker Matt Dees describes, “2020 was a vintage that required quick thinking, focus, and all attention to detail. Conditions changed rapidly with brief periods of heat followed by a few sporadic rain events. It was a vintage where the great vineyards stood out and where superior farming was key. Cooler vineyard sites that could avoid the heat produced more balanced wines in 2020. Vineyards with well-draining soils also thrived as they shook off the rain events more quickly. Kimsey is absolutely defined by these characteristics and therefore produced wines of power and elegance, purity and focus. I can taste the sunshine in these wines in their generous density of fruit, but also the cool nature of the site in their vibrant acidity and precision. These wines represent the essence of what the Kimsey Vineyard is capable of; sincere expressions of parcel and vintage that are ultimately delicious and balanced. These are a must-have for the cellar."

Happy Easter to all! We hope that you are celebrating your traditions with loved ones today!

We found these hardworking, blooming beauties tucked between the rows, peeking out like hidden Easter eggs! These legume flowers are the end result of our seasonal, nitrogen fixing cover crop: beautiful and functional! Nature is miraculous.

Budbreak! What a difference a day makes. The sun is shining and we have blue skies for the first time in weeks here in the Ballard Canyon AVA. The grass on surrounding hillsides is growing vigorously, gaining literal inches in height by the day while vintage 2023 is quickly emerging throughout the vineyard. Welcome to a new season!
