I recently spent a weekend visiting friends who lives in Geyserville, high in the hills above Healdsburg with beautiful views across the valley. Their neighbors happen to be Kerry and Daisy Damskey, who, along with their son Drew, own Palmeri W**es. Before I headed home, Daisy gave me a bottle of their 2023 Old Vine Sémillon from the Monte Rosso Vineyard, planted in 1886 and home to some of the oldest Sémillon vines in the world. A w**e made in tiny quantities from nearly 140-year-old vines is not something you come across every day and that is why the Palmeri 2023 Old Vine Sémillon, Monte Rosso Vineyard, Sonoma County is the Please The Palate W**e of the Week.

Tom Sinton fell in love with w**e as a teenager during a transformative summer in Reims, France. Years later, that passion led him to start a vineyard, earn a Master's degree in Food Science at UC Davis, and eventually build one of America's largest payroll and HR service companies. But w**e was always a dream, and in 2011, Tom discovered a 67-acre property in the El Dorado AVA, and Starfield Vineyards was born. Gewürztraminer and Pinot Noir. They may not be the first two grapes you would think to put together. Gewürztraminer brings intense aromatics and floral notes, while Pinot Noir brings red fruit, freshness, and acidity. But sometimes opposites attract, and together they make a surprisingly good match.
