Some parents keep a running tab. For the food. For the clothes. For the sacrifices. They expect to be repaid in obedience, gratitude, or a version of success they picked out. The child never asked for any of it.

That's the heart of this quote. A child doesn't choose to be born. The parent makes that choice. And when you make a choice, you own the consequences. Not the person who had no say in it.

It's a simple idea. It's also a hard one for a lot of people to accept. In many cultures, children are taught they owe their parents everything. Respect. Money. Care in old age. A lifetime of repayment for a decision they didn't make.

The quote says the opposite. It says parenting isn't a transaction. It's a responsibility. You bring a life into the world, you owe that life everything you can give. Not the other way around.

The uncomfortable part isn't the quote. It's how many people grew up feeling like they owed something they never agreed to. And how many parents act like their children are investments instead of people.
