Today is International Cab Day, and we’re pouring a Cellar specialty, Napa State of Vine 2021.

Crafted from St. Helena fruit, it spends 18 months in French oak. On the palate, it’s got rich dark berry and cherry with notes of vanilla and oak. Smooth tannins give it robust but approachable body, making it the picture perfect Napa red.

Pair it with a red meats, poulty, venison, or a cheeseboard and you’ve got yourself an amazing night in.

Bob recently visited CHÂTEAU LES VALENTINES in Côtes de Provence. 🇫🇷🍷

Gilles and his wife, Pascale, moved their family decades ago from Paris to start their adventure making their wonderful rose in the La Londe les Maures region of Provence, one of regions right along the Mediterranean Sea and further south than most. The estate has beautiful sea views from the hills surrounding the vineyards.

Their w**es are elegant and balanced, made from *hand harvested* Estate Fruit. Many of the big brands are just buying fruit and blending together. You can taste the difference in the bottle as the quality stands above the rest.

In the glass, this w**e gives crisp grapefruit, lime, green apple, a touch of chamomile. Incredible with goat cheese, oysters, or charcuterie.

Bob just returned from Jean Royer in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and the story of this resilient w**e producer is an incredible one. 🇫🇷🍷 Royer Jean Marie

Winemaker, Jean Royer, was 2 when his father died. His mother leased out the vineyards just to get by, and Jean-Marie grew up working his grandmother’s tiny plots instead. When she passed, he inherited a sliver of that land, buying back the family’s scattered parcels one by one. He does something most of the neighbors haven’t; he lets the vines grow tall instead of hedging them down, focusing on elegance and nuance over jammy and robust.

Jean now cultivates 6 hectares of 90% Grenache, 10% Syrah & Mourvedre, and his cuvée selections change every year. 🍇
