Our Story
Mike is a 5th generation farmer in the SM Valley. He was a grower in Guadalupe until 2017, when he “retired” from growing row crops. Now he manages our small blueberry farm, growing blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, apricots, lavender, and tomatoes. Mike and his wife, Carol, are committed to no pesticide use at the blueberry farm.
“We want to offer clean, healthy fruit for our family and friends. In 2009 we harvested our first crop of blueberries. In May of 2009, Our daughter suggested that we get some buckets and allow her friends to come out and pick themselves. It was a hit and our U-Pick was born that year!
Over the years, the U-Pick has grown in popularity. We offer several varieties of blueberries. We introduce new blueberry varieties as old plants tire out, in an effort to provide quality fruit that we can offer our customers over a more extended grow period. Our Blueberry U-Pick season runs from March or April (weather dependent) until July 4 usually. Our Freedom variety of blackberries are thorn-less and begin ripening in June-July and harvest into September. Through the Spring and Summer the Albion variety of strawberries are ripe and delicious! We don’t use ANY sprays to manage the pesty mites that can plague strawberries. Instead we use IPM (integrated pest management.... good bugs eat the bad) as our method of controlling those pests. This year Mike planted a row of daffodil bulbs in with the strawberries, offering flowers for customers to cut. In addition, he planted some lavender which can also be cut. In summer, Carol plants her cherry tomatoes which harvest later in the summer and into fall.
In addition we have a variety of other things we sell at the stand.
