The soils of Solomon Hills Vineyards are composed primarily of ocean derived sandy loams. Because it is the western most vineyard in the Santa Maria Valley appellation, it is the coolest of all vineyards in this growing region. With the Pacific coastline only miles away, a constant maritime influence results in wines of precise acidity, bright fruit and an inherent elegance.

Mark and friends have been longtime fans of Bien Nacido and finally made it out for a vineyard tour and tasting last month! Harvest is the perfect time to join us on a vineyard tour and tasting. You'll have the opportunity to see the hustle and bustle of one of the most important times of year for us and (maybe) get a chance to taste grapes straight from the vine.

The Aligoté is back! We’re honored to share our second vintage of Aligoté at a Gatehouse gathering on Saturday, August 15th from 11-5! With only 29 cases produced, this rare, small-lot wine won’t be around for long (last year's small production sold out quickly), so make sure to reserve yours now!

Aligoté is Burgundy’s lesser-known white grape. Ours is grown just past the White Rock, on the San Luis Obispo side of the estate, where coastal breezes and ancient soils yield a wine that’s bright, pure, and refreshingly distinct.

Less oxygen relative to volume allows for a slower, more deliberate evolution, meaning you can hang on to these bottles a bit longer.

We don't fill many of these each vintage.

Want to see our robots in action? We are participating in Farm Day in September! Hear about our two robots, Fred & Geraldine (as christened by Nicholas Miller's daughter, Scout), from our Director of Agriculture, Greg Gonzalez! Demonstrations will be offered at 11am, 12pm, 1pm and 2pm.

What to Expect: Learn about our farming practices, including innovative methods such as cover cropping and soil rejuvenation, as well as cutting-edge technology. We will be demonstrating our SAGA robot, which utilizes UV-C light to combat powdery mildew, eliminating the need for fungicides. Our Pellenec harvester will also be on hand.

In our Gatehouse tasting room, guests can enjoy discounted glasses and bottles of our award-winning wines. Additionally, children will receive a complimentary ice cream scoop from Hubbalicious, with extra scoops available for purchase until they sell out. Homemade Heritage will also be present, offering their remarkable sourdough, a highlight in our tasting room experience!

And so the 2026 harvest begins with chardonnay.

This fruit is brilliant, with well-developed flavors despite the (very) early season. We are seeing great signs of what this harvest will bring. Our vineyard manager, Greg, is hopeful that this is going to be an exceptional year, though we will see what Mother Nature brings us!

Harvest is starting in two weeks! Anthony and Connor sampled some of our earlier ripening blocks this week and have officially set the dates for the first pick of the season. This is the earliest we will have picked for our Estate wines, and if the weather continues as predicted, we will likely be wrapped up well before Halloween.
