Here lies our beloved harvest, taken from us too soon by a cold-hearted villain known only as “The Freeze.”
In a single, icy night, temperatures plummeted and so did our expectations. The tiny buds of fruit succumbed to the chill.
The Cherries, peaches, and apricots—taken before their time (and before we got to eat them). They showed great promise, then immediately froze under pressure. The cherries are survived by empty branches. The peaches are survived by unrealistic optimism. The apricots are survived by absolutely nothing.
The Orchard will be remembered for giving us false hope in March.
The branches remain, but hope is… seasonal.

This winter was unseasonably warm and the blossoms came out weeks earlier than usual. Hopefully, there won’t be any more temperatures below freezing. Otherwise, we can lose the crop. , , , ,
