Thank you, Fred ( ) for showing us how Apple trellis systems work!

Have you ever wondered why apple trees in modern orchards grow in neat rows instead of giant shady trees? 🍎🌳

The trellis system is why! Like Fred stated, they are a support system for apple trees, kind of like a fence for the branches. It helps trees grow upward instead of outward so they get more sunlight, produce better fruit, and are easier to pick and care for.

More sunlight = sweeter apples 🍎☀️
Easier picking = faster harvest 🚜
Healthier trees = better yields 🌱

Modern orchards are designed for efficiency from the ground up.

Thank you, Kent! Bud grafting helps fruit tree farmers grow orchards that are stronger, more productive, and more consistent. 🌱

By combining hardy rootstock with high-quality fruit varieties, growers can improve disease resistance, control tree size, increase yield, and adapt trees to different soil and climate conditions.

It also allows farmers to reliably reproduce the exact fruit variety they want — because planting seeds won’t always grow true to type.

One small bud can shape the future of an entire orchard.

After a cold spring night, a tree can display a combination of both dead and alive blossoms. It can be, but isn’t usually an all-or-nothing situation. The two blossoms shown here are from the same tree. Growers will navigate through various sections of their orchards, conducting spot checks to assess the condition of the blossoms and estimate their overall status.

Thank you to Jace for this video!
