Aedric Scroft's favorite saying is, "Live long, and I'll prosper", while aggressively using the traditional Vulcan hand sign.
He mysteriously finds himself on ships and planets during times of catastrophe, ready to fill the positions of lost officers. When asked why he is there, he callously says, "I've got a big family to feed."

For years, rumors have plagued Scroft from ship to ship. Highly qualified officers posted to duties they were never trained to perform. Exceptional engineers reassigned to questionable roles, brilliant scientists transferred to forgotten outposts and command officers left to stagnate while incompetence flourished around them.

Every decision could be dismissed as competent judgement, every complaint buried beneath bureaucracy, every career quietly ruined and no one could prove it's intentional.

With careers destroyed in his wake, which redshirt finally took their revenge and killed him.

𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗟𝗧. 𝗝𝗚 𝗩𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗩𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗲
Helmsman, USS Expendable

LT. JG Vitale genuinely believes that one day, he will be one of the beast pilots in the fleet. The trouble is, the ship's hull damage reports beg to differ.

Vitale has never docked at a starbase without clipping a pylon, scraping a shuttle bay door, or setting off at least one proximity alarm. Engineering keeps a standing pool on how many replacement running lights he'll need per quarter. He's also a walking hazard off the bridge — he's knocked over three potted plants in the arboretum, sent a tray of hors d'oeuvres flying at the Captain's last dinner party, and once elbowed a superior officer into the turbolift doors mid-salute.

Even though Vitale is a genuinely gifted pilot on paper, with reflexes and instincts that test off the charts in simulations, the moment real danger hits, something short-circuits. Orders to "go to warp, now" have, on more than one occasion, come out as half-impulse, leaving the ship sitting like a target while he frantically recalculates. He always has an excuse ready — a "sensor glitch," a "console lag" — and he half-believes them himself.

He passed the test of his deepest fear, then asked to do it again for amusement.

Worked security on research vessels and off-world facilities straight out of the Academy.

Recently dragged back to Starfleet for reassignment under a cloud. Demotion to lieutenant. Assigned to DSM Expendable as a security officer on 3rd Watch. Rumored to have bounced a senior officer off the bulkhead.

Jessica Thorne is the kind of woman who can make an entire room uncomfortable without raising her voice. She is quiet, observant, sarcastic, and fascinated by things most people find disturbing. Death doesn't particularly frighten her—in fact, she finds it strangely educational.

Jessica has the dry, deadpan humor of someone who has seen too much and cares too little about pretending otherwise. She rarely smiles. When she does, people usually wonder what she's planning.

Jessica is extremely intelligent and notices details that other people overlook. She is excellent at weapons training, tactical exercises, interrogation techniques, and investigating suspicious behavior. All this makes her a perfect choice as a Security Officer, her dream job.

Unfortunately, her Starfleet recruiter, Aedric Scroft, had other plans. He told Starfleet that her ability to remain calm around blood and corpses meant she belonged in Medical.

"Don't worry." he told Jessica. "Medical will only be temporary. I'll eventually help you transfer to Security." He lied.

Jessica has now spent years trapped in a department she hates and she has never forgiven her Recruiter. "One of these days, Aedric Scroft is going to pay." is part of her morning mantra as she heads to Medical.

Captain’s Log – DSM0801.26

The D.S.M. Expendable is three weeks into a deep-space survey when Fleet Recruitment Officer Aedric Scroft arrived onboard.

Officially, his purpose is simple.
*Assess the crew.
*Identify promising officers.
*Recommend assignments for the next wave of exploration.

For years, rumors have plagued Scroft from ship to ship. Highly qualified officers posted to duties they were never trained to perform. Exceptional engineers reassigned to questionable roles, brilliant scientists transferred to forgotten outposts and command officers left to stagnate while incompetence flourished around them.

Every decision could be dismissed as competent judgement, every complaint buried beneath bureaucracy, every career quietly ruined and no one could prove it was intentional.

Within hours of boarding the Expendable, Scroft is found dead in his quarters.

The ship has been sealed. No one leaves. No one arrives. My investigation begins.

Five members of the crew have quickly emerged as suspects. Each believes Scroft destroyed not only their career, but the life they had hoped to build aboard this new ship.

Curiously, each suspect has abandoned their departmental colors and reported for duty wearing the same red uniform.

I question whether this is an act of solidarity or an attempt to confuse witnesses. I have also gathered an investigative panel of aides, those already aboard our vessel, to complete this investigation.

There seem to be more questions than answers in this perplexing situation. But, the mission is clear. We must Question the suspects, examine the evidence and trust no-one’s version of events. Which one of these “redshirts” decided that such revenge was worth the risk, and why?

Meet Lieutenant Lessa Babble, Thessari Communications Officer

Lessa Babble is a Thessarian. Her race is well known for their ability to pick up languages due to their large pointy ears and sound pattern recognition. Tragically, Lessa is a catastrophic exception. This is a source of profound personal shame. Among her people, being bad at languages is like a fish being bad at swimming. She has never told another Thessari about her posting in Communications. Her family thinks she's in "a kind of science-adjacent role."

Perhaps she told this lie because that's what she has always dreamed to be — a scientist among the stars. She scored in the 94th percentile on her xenobiology entrance exam and had already named her hypothetical lab mouse.

Then Recruiter Aedric Scroft happened. "Communications is basically science," he told her. "You're working with frequencies. Frequencies are math. Math is science. Boom."

She signed the form. She has regretted it every single day since.

To try and fit in, Babble carries a worn copy of Galactic Phrases for Dummies everywhere and highlights passages she will absolutely misread aloud at the worst possible moment, all the while dreaming up fantasies on the most gruesome ways Recruiter Scroft could meet his demise.
