Hope you had a great Father's Day weekend! ☕

On Sunday we published a blog post settling one of the great coffee debates: hot coffee vs. cold brew — what's actually different, and which one is best for you?

Sharing it again today for anyone who missed it (and as a permanent bookmark for the eternal "which is better" argument):

🍫 Cold brew is approximately 65–70% LESS acidic than hot coffee — meaningful for sensitive stomachs

⚡ Per ounce, cold brew often has MORE caffeine than hot drip (the internet gets this one wrong)

🍫 Cold brew tastes naturally sweeter because cold water extracts different compounds

🔥 Hot coffee preserves more aromatic complexity and brightness — better for showing off single-origins

The honest answer: they're not rivals. They're different tools for different mornings. Most serious coffee drinkers we know keep both — hot for slow mornings and single-origin exploration, cold for hot afternoons and batch convenience.

A question we get all the time: "Should I buy a single-origin coffee or a blend?" ☕
Here's the honest answer most coffee brands won't give you: neither is better. They're just different.
🌍 Single-origin coffee comes from one specific place — one country, region, or farm. The point is to showcase the unique flavor of that place. Ethiopian coffee tastes nothing like Brazilian. Kenyan tastes nothing like Colombian. Each cup tells a story.
☕ Coffee blends combine beans from multiple origins to create a balanced, intentional cup. A skilled roaster builds a blend the way a chef builds a recipe — choosing each component for what it contributes. The result is consistent, balanced, and built to perform across brewing methods.

So which should YOU buy?
It depends on three things:

1️⃣ How you drink your coffee — Black? Try single-origin. With significant milk or as espresso? Try a blend.
2️⃣ How you brew — Pour-over and drip favor single-origins. Espresso machines and French press lean toward blends.
3️⃣ Variety vs. consistency — Want adventure? Single-origin. Want reliability? Blend.

But here's the secret most serious coffee drinkers know: they keep both. A favorite blend for everyday mornings, and a rotating single-origin for variety.

Our latest blog post is a complete breakdown — including a comparison table, when to choose each, and the misconception you've probably believed about "single-origin being more premium."

P.S. — Our coffee subscription lets you do exactly this: stock your favorite blend AND get a fresh single-origin every month. The best of both worlds.

A small piece of coffee history for your Sunday morning ☕🌸

Did you know that coffee was first discovered in Ethiopia — over 1,000 years ago? According to legend, an Ethiopian goat herder named Kaldi noticed his goats getting unusually energetic after eating berries from a wild tree. He tried them himself, and the rest is history.

A thousand years later, Ethiopian coffee — especially from the legendary Yirgacheffe region — still tastes like nowhere else on Earth:

🌸 Floral aromas (jasmine, hibiscus, white tea)
🍋 Bright citrus acidity (lemon, lime, bergamot)
🍃 A clean, tea-like body
🫐 Subtle berry sweetness

It's the kind of coffee that makes you slow down and actually pay attention to what's in your cup.
Our latest blog post — Ethiopian Coffee 101 — walks through:

✅ The history of coffee's birthplace
✅ Why Yirgacheffe is the most prized region
✅ How to brew Ethiopian coffee at home (and which methods to avoid)
✅ How it compares to other origins
✅ Tasting notes for our Organic Ethiopian Yirgacheffe

If you've never explored single-origin coffee, this is the perfect place to start.

What do coffee flavor notes actually mean?

When you see terms like “chocolatey,” “nutty,” or “bright,” they’re not just marketing language, they describe how coffee truly tastes, smells, and feels.

Here’s a simple way to understand them:

☕ Chocolatey → rich, cocoa-like, low acidity
☕ Nutty → warm, toasted, balanced
☕ Bright → crisp, citrusy, lively (not sour)
☕ Smooth → mellow, clean, easy to drink

These flavors develop naturally based on:

• Where the coffee is grown
• How it’s roasted
• How it’s brewed

Once you understand this, choosing the right coffee becomes much easier.
