Natural and sensory materials are a regular part of my sessions. Not only for regulation, but for connection, language development, and imaginative play.

Sand, stones, shells, crystals, etc. support tactile sensory input, which can help organize the nervous system.

But it also opens the door to imagination and language. Crystals become planets and meteors. Shells turn into shelters. Sand becomes an entire world to explore.

Through building, creating, and storytelling, children practice descriptive language, problem-solving, sequencing, and expressive communication.
