National coffee day today!

The story of seduction

In 1727, Francisco de Melo Palheta, a Portuguese lieutenant colonial, was on a diplomatic mission to French Guiana. After many failed attempts to get coffee seeds, he seduced the governor's wife to obtain the seeds. He then smuggled the seeds out of the country in a bouquet of flowers and planted them in Pará, Brazil.
The outcome
The seeds thrived and spread south, and by 1770, coffee was being grown as far away as Rio de Janeiro. By the 1830s, Brazil was producing 30% of the world's coffe
