How long has it been since you’ve had a brace of quail setting in front of you at the dinner table. When I was a kid our next door neighbor, Mr. John Hall would invite me to come over and have some of his quail after a long mornings hunt. Mrs. Hall always made sure we had biscuits and gravy to pair up with them birds. I can remember it like it was yesterday. Not that many bird hunters out there these days. If you’ve never tried this old southern dish then come on out this week and join us. We’ve done all the work, you just set back and enjoy it like I did many years ago!

A plate of barbecue and a long, easy meal can take you right back. Maybe it’s a place with a hunting lodge feel, a big appetite, and enough character on the walls to keep you looking around between bites.

That mix of steakhouse and backwoods museum is hard to miss here. The woodwork, the mounted wildlife, the big portions, it all feels tied to a part of Alabama that never really rushed anywhere.

It’s the kind of stop that makes you lean back and stay awhile. I’ve always liked places that know exactly what they are and don’t bother pretending otherwise.
