A while ago we shared that only the loader is allowed in the mixing area. This unloading zone is on the opposite side of the mixers, so it’s separated from the loader by these open-back bays. The loader never needs to worry about trucks, and trucks don’t need to worry about the loader. Keeping these two activities separate keeps everyone safer. This video was sped up for social media, so don’t worry. 🙂

Let's keep with the "back to the basics" theme this week. Why does each pen have a gate connecting it to the next pen?

It's a pretty basic thing, but each pen has their own number. It's helpful if there is an issue that needs to be addressed you can direct the team to a specific pen number. This number is also used to assign ration type and amount.

What other "back to the basics" type questions can we answer for you?

We treat sick cattle. What type of medicine is required depends on what they're diagnosed with. But no matter what they get treated with, it all gets logged into our yard management system. We track what medicine was given, how much and when as well as weight and temperature of the animal when it was treated. This, plus a few other ways to double check ourselves, allows us to make sure we're following all label instructions and withdrawal periods. This is a huge piece not only for animal welfare, but food safety!
