Success! 💚 At least until the next calving. Sorry for the lack of farm updates. Calving hit and nearly everything went wrong for a while...cow rejecting calf, calf pneumonia, catching and trailering new mom-cows back to the farmyard to re-bond with healing calves, calling the vet for an emergency birth ON PASTURE (pulling the calf) out of a first-time heifer at 10pm on a holiday. And, of course, she rejected it after the trauma. 😭
SOOOO...after feeding and caring for several sick or orphaned calves in the barn, and more vet visits and phone calls, Dale's patience and long 16-hour workdays paid off. THANK YOU to Sunrise Veterinary Services, Reedsburg, WI and our friends and family who helped out on occasion, so we didn't completely lose our sanity!
📢📢📢 NOTE: This is NOT typical care for beef cattle, and we are not set up for routine calf feeding. Ideally, they are born on pasture and the mom takes care of them. We just had our first unlucky Spring.
