We’re not squid-ing when we tell you that more squid is landed in the Port of Galilee than any other port on the Atlantic seaboard. In the last week, there were more than 100,000 pounds of squid landed in Pt. Judith. Squid is a species that can be found year round and is a good source of vitamin B12, selenium, and riboflavin. In addition to being delicious, calamari is also the official state appetizer of Rhode Island!

You can celebrate squid at this years 7th annual state-wide Calamari Fest on Saturday September 16th from 11 AM – 4 PM. This event promotes fresh and sustainable seafood landed right in RI. Meet Vic Andrade! Vic is from New York City but made her way to the Ocean State in 2014 to attend Johnson and Wales University. Vic has a background in food and for a time from 2017-2019 ran an ice cream pop-up. Vic decided to stay in Lil’ Rhody and during this time, she met Davy and was introduced to the world of seafood! Vic says that growing up in NYC she did not have much experience with seafood, but slowly began to try more, and fell in love with it. Her favorite is shellfish, especially oysters and clams, and she now eats seafood about 3 times a week!

Vic is now the Retail Operation Manager and Chief Marketing Director of Andrade’s Catch in Bristol. She is also in charge of curating the pantry found inside the shop, which is made up of a variety of items like bluefish pate, tinned fish, items from Hope & Main, Farm Fresh items, seafood tools, and much more! Vic says that she loves getting to work with Davy every day because they share a common passion and goal in the work that they do. Amongst her favorite things to do is design new merchandise for the shop while also tying in the shop’s rich history. Vic says she also loves her daily interactions with customers and being able to trade recipes and share stories with them.

During the peak season, Andrade’s works with over thirty local Rhode Island fishers to source their fresh seafood variety. Customers can shop in person at Andrade’s Catch, but they also offer online ordering with pickup. Vic says to always call for questions about specific seafood items or stop by and say hi!
