Patagonia Provisions Everything we make has a reason for being: to fix a broken food system. We're in business to save our home planet. What Does Patagonia Know About Food?

People often ask why a clothing company is in the food business. The answer is simple: We are in business to save our home planet. And given that agriculture is responsible for about a quarter of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, how and what we choose to eat presents a huge opportunity for positive change. Plus, we just love great food.

The #1 question we get about our anchovies is, “aren’t these sardines?” The answer to that is no, but we understand why it can be confusing. Both are small, nutrient-dense fish that are low on the ocean food chain, but they’re actually two entirely different species. Both have similar environmental benefits as compared to larger species, but both fish differ slightly in what they bring to the table. Swipe to break down the difference.🐟

Curious about sardines but not sure how to enjoy them? Save this post for 8 ways to enjoy sardines this summer☀️🌊 These small schooling fish are a great source of protein with 12+ grams per tin, omega-3s, and require no cooking, so they’re the perfect before or after snack to accompany an active summer outdoors. They also come with the added environmental benefits of eating lower on the food chain, lessening our impact on the ocean.🐟

Our team spent time this week getting outdoors and learning about our local coastal ecosystem with .fungi.adventures 🌊 We foraged seaweed, learned how to filet anchovies, and enjoyed a beautiful grazing board packed with local wild foods. It was a wonderful reminder of how food ties us back to the waters and land of our home planet.

We’ve spent a lot of time talking about why an outdoor clothing company makes food this month. So of course, it makes sense that we decided to sketch out what it would look like to put our food in our clothes. Modeling here: a wild pink salmon and a sardine.

Why does an outdoor clothing company make beer? Beer is an agricultural product, which means it can be made with organic and regenerative products, like Kernza®. Together with , we’re set making organic beers that restore the planet we love to climb, surf and ski.

The people behind our food—farmers, fishers, ranchers, processors—are the drivers of positive impact across the waters, plains and prairies we source our food from. Here are the some of the partners we are proud to work with to restore the planet we love: today, and every day.

Make a Sardines + Beans dense bean salad 🐟🫘 it’s an easy way to use canned pantry goods to make a lunch that hits all your nutrition goals (and packs flavor, too!) Recipe below:

- 1 can Patagonia Provisions Sardines with Black Beans & Corn
- 2 cans additional beans, drained (kidney, pinto, black, chickpea - whatever you have!)
- 1 small shallot or 1/2 red onion, very finely diced
- 1 rib celery, finely diced
- Zest of 1/2 lemon
- Juice of 1 lemon
- 2 tbsp chopped parsley
- 1½ tbsp chopped chives
- 1 tbsp chopped dill
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Optional: dressing of your choice (we used leftover white bean spread!)

Add everything to a large bowl, including the entire tin of sardines and beans. Toss to combine. Taste and add more salt, pepper, dressing or oil as needed.

Move over BLT and make way for the ALT! 🐟🥬🍅🥪 we swapped out bacon for our Lemon Olive Anchovies for this protein rich twist on the classic sandwich. It’s perfect for the lunchbox, desk, or trail, and is a good way to make the most of the last few weeks of tomato season.

To assemble: make a sandwich with sourdough bread, mayo, lettuce, a thick slice of heirloom tomato and a tin of our white anchovies. 🥪
