Get a BFF who owns her own floral and sweets business!!!!!

I ordered these since I was in town and I have to tell you, the quality and creativity is mindblowing!

I gave her carte blanche with the only request being no white chocolate.... because white chocolate should be against the law.... ITS NOT EVEN REAL CHOCOLATE!!!!!

Anywho, these were delicious! Go order some!!!!

Let's talk about sediment!

Sediment is simply the skins, seeds, pulp, and dead yeast that are either suspended in the wine or settled at the bottom.

This is a Super Tuscan I'm currently fermenting and I thought it would be a great example of levels of sediment. This is the same wine, pulled at the same time but gradually sediment has been removed.

The best thing for sediment removal is time. There are clearing agents or mechanical filters for those of us who are impatient 😀.

Note how sediment affects the color of the wine!

I am SO excited to tell everyone about this shipment of grapes!!!!

It'll be my official first Super Tuscan blend and for those who know me, you know that is my favorite type of wine.

After the disaster that was my rosé, I wanted to try something a little more familiar.

So I bought a shipment of grapes from CA and now we're going to make our first blend!!!!

The rosé has been saved!!!! This is the last racking before bottling and I can't explain how relieved I am that the sulphur smell is gone!

I'll do a followup post shortly explaining what happened and how we fixed it but let's celebrate that I....

I was out in my backyard when I noticed my zinfandel grapes have started to ripen! I keep them in mesh bags to prevent squirrels and birds from eating them so I hadn't really inspected them in a while!

The inevitable happened and we dropped one of the large glass containers (carboys) full of the rosè that I'm trying to save.

Shockingly....

Carboy - 1 Tile Floor - 0

Good thing I didn't love the flooring, right?

Good news: the wine was saved with my husband's quick thinking and long arms! We quickly transferred the wine into another carboy, checked for cracks or dings (cracks/dings = toss the wine) and luckily, there was nothing.

Day..... something of my rosè journey - primary fermentation has concluded and now we have halted all yeast activity and added our clearing agents because I don't have the patience to wait 6 months for it to clear naturally!!!

Stay tuned for my next post where I (hopefully) solve a problem I've created (that I haven't told anyone about yet)!!!

Happy National Wine Day!!!!

To celebrate, I racked my rosé off the lees and we'll let it finish primary fermentation.

Next week, I'll stop the primary fermentation, give it some stuff to help it clear and then the worst part of making wine....

My first crack at a rosé is officially underway!!!!

My first shipment of free-run sangiovese juice arrived today after a minor hiccup with shipping and a damaged first batch!!!

Let's hope I did enough research and I successfully make a delicious rosé!!!!

We have it sitting with an anti-microbial treatment to remove all the nonsense we don't want to drink! That'll chill for a day or so before I put the yeast in!

This is a 2021 harvest from Livermore Valley, CA... for anyone who is keeping track 😉
