This is Bailey.
She is just over 6 months old. She likely is a light dun/cream CL Dexter. We have not tested her for this mutation, but is very likely as her pedigree is full of the Cranworth herd which was know for this color variant.
You can’t milk color, but her pedigree is full of strong milk lines too. It is our sincere hopes she will follow in her grandmother Pepper and mother Princess Nancy’s hoof steps. Her sire and grand sire is FairyHill Peter reportedly a strong Dexter milk line.
So far we are impressed with her mother and have always been impressed with her grandmother. Hopefully in a year she will be bred and we will be on our way to another amazing Dexter milker.
I love some of the mutations in the Dexter breed…grandma is a Dexter Dwarf, another mutation we value on our farm.
Hooves crossed for this sweet one!

Fly buffet table or recycling the fly paper?
We lay this fly paper in the milk stall after milking because we spray the cows down with SWAT natural fly spray and they fall off and then climb onto the paper. Every fly we eliminate can’t replicate.
This chicken will reward us with even better eggs.

It was a LOUD night last night. T-bone decided he wanted to stay with his girl friends last night. First three nights of calf separation at night are always loud…some milk for him and us this morning.

Hoping to trap some face flies when the dexters drink. Seems to be working…update in a few days.
Flies are bad this season…we use many natural methods…this is just one.
We also use SWAT natural fly spray and fly predators…and these strips all over the barn.
Grateful that the goats don’t seem to have the problem.

This is Our Joy. She is a polled mature dwarf Dexter cow who doesn’t like to wait for her turn in the milk shoot. She is one of our friendliest. She likes to rub on my husband’s legs to get her daily petting.
We just love our little cows!

We rarely worm...and haven't used chemical wormers in over a decade. We also don't have an issue with coccidia. How do we accomplish this? We feed Serecia lespedeza hay. We buy it from friend and farmer in Cornith MS.
Attached is one of many articles that support what we have found to be true, use the hay and no barber pole worm.
It is good for goats, sheep, horses and we have found that what the goats don't finish our cows devour. And so we haven't needed to worm them either.
Good pasture rotations and this hay are what works for us.
Folks they have this hay available, barn kept and ready for purchase.
Please send a pm for contact information. It is $10 a bail for a few bails and $9 for bulk purchases.
It has worked for us for many years and now is available to you too.
