We are a young family from the big city that decided to homestead and have a family hobby farm. We are very Portlandia in that we practice some yoga, we are trying to grow our own food, we eat organic and we eat vegetarian except for the occasional meat that we hunt or raise ourselves. We are not very good hunters and we don't raise our animals for meat, so... we eat a lot of tofu and beans. Occas
ionally a mean rooster might become chicken soup but that's about it around here. Right now we have a honey bee hive literally in the walls of our house. We are hoping to move them to a bee nucleus. We are also throwing around the idea of getting a milking cow so we can have dairy products. The name of our homestead is Scaponia Springs Farm and it is located on Scappoose-Vernonia Hwy. We are about 7 miles down the highway, between Cater and Chapman. The farm is 100 years old, including the log barn where the chickens enjoy full range of 2 levels.
