Lobsters smell through their feet. They chew with their stomachs. And apparently, they p*e out their face. š¦š³
Yep. Those are just three of the surprising facts Jim Hartley of Pine Tree Seafood & Produce discovered while exploring The Secret Life of Lobstersāand they're only the beginning.
After 15 years of selling lobsters, Jim expected the book to offer a few interesting tidbits. Instead, he came away with a whole new appreciation for the strange and fascinating animal he works with every day.
He shares five facts that still surprise customers at the counter, including why lobsters shed their entire shells, how their unusual eyes have inspired telescope engineers, why their claws aren't identical, and how baby lobsters can actually rocket through the water.
But Jim says the biggest lesson wasn't really about lobsters. It's about what happens when the hands-on knowledge of fishermen and the data gathered by scientists are brought together.
And now you have to wonder: What else don't we know about the lobster sitting on our dinner plate? š
