You’ve met the crew. Now meet the guy who started it all.

Jim is the kind of person who sees a “for sale” sign on Route 1 and pulls over. Not because he had a plan for a fish market. He just recognized an opportunity - and if you know anything about Jim, that part isn’t surprising.

He ran a bar on a ski slope in Colorado for six years. “We basically threw a party every day.” Then Maine pulled him back, the way it does. One afternoon on Route 1, he saw the sign. Called his father-in-law Dick Whitmore. Bought it. Pine Tree Seafood opened Labor Day weekend, 2012.

Dunstan Smokehouse came from a simple idea - that good fish shouldn’t go to waste. What started as a way to use every part of the catch has grown into a full line of premium smoked seafood, built on the same responsible sourcing that Pine Tree Seafood & Produce was founded on.

A while back, he gave 20% of Dunstan to the four people who helped build it. He calls it “principle over profit.”

Throwback to a Corinna farm kid (yep, that's Jim) who grew up watching his father and uncle build a business out of nothing - two guys who never finished high school but ended up running one of the biggest dealerships in the area. They cut the trees off the family land to frame the building themselves.

Pine Tree Seafood and Dunstan Smokehouse are built the same way. One opportunity at a time.

Got to set up our Dunstan Smokehouse samples table at the brand new Morning Glory Natural Foods out at the Naval Air Station in Brunswick (next to Flight Deck Brewing and Wild Oats Bakery & Cafe). My good friend Susan from the Maine Coast Fishermen's Association stopped by a visit also!

The store looks great, congrats to Toby, Haley, and staff and family for hitting a home run with this super duper new market!
