There’s something so lovely about spending a sunny autumn afternoon among the calendula. These bright orange blossoms just keep giving, even as the days grow shorter and the garden begins to slow down.

We’ve been gathering calendula throughout the growing season, carefully picking each flower by hand at its peak. It’s one of those harvests that invites you to slow down, enjoy the warmth of the sun, and appreciate the abundance that the garden continues to offer.

There’s something so special about capturing the goodness of a plant at the height of its growing season and preserving it to enjoy throughout the colder months. 🌿

Every year at Meeting House Farm, we plan special harvests just for our herbal extracts, using fresh plants grown and tended right here on our farm.

What makes our extracts unique? We take the extra time to extract twice, combining a strong water infusion with an alcohol extraction to capture a fuller spectrum of the plant’s beneficial constituents.

Two of our favorites this season are Elder and Hawthorn. Elder has long been a treasured ally for immune support through the winter months, while Hawthorn is a wonderful traditional heart tonic that supports cardiovascular wellness.

Each bottle holds a little piece of the growing season, carefully harvested and prepared with love, ready to nourish you long after the gardens have gone to rest.

The first frost of the season is on its way, so we’re tucking the tulsi and ashwagandha in for the night.

Thankfully, the cold won’t be staying with us just yet. The weather will warm again, and these simple covers will hopefully give us another week of harvesting tulsi before the season comes to an end.

For the ashwagandha, we’re watching and waiting for a few more of those beautiful berries to turn fully red before winter takes the plants. As the berries ripen, the roots continue to mature and develop the medicine we’ve been patiently tending all season.

These little shifts in the weather are always a reminder that farming is a conversation with the seasons. Sometimes all we can do is tuck the plants in, give them a little more time, and see what nature allows. 🌿

We’re here! The first day of the Common Ground Country Fair is officially underway!

Our Meeting House Farm booth is all set up and filled with so many of the things we love to share, from our dried organic herbs and roots to handcrafted apothecary goods, extracts, oils, and a little Meeting House Farm apparel, too.

It feels so good to be back in Unity, Maine, surrounded by farmers, growers, makers, and so many familiar faces. If you’re at the Fair this weekend, come find us, say hello, explore the booth, and talk herbs with us. We would love to see you!

Fall is nearly here, and with it comes one of the most grounding harvests of the season: fresh roots. There’s something so special about watching plants flourish throughout the summer, knowing that beneath the soil they’re quietly gathering all that strength and energy. Come autumn, it’s finally time to dig in.
Patch Farm, located in Denmark, Maine, is offering a beautiful selection of fresh, Certified Organic roots for pre-order, including elecampane, valerian, ashwagandha, comfrey, dandelion, garlic, and more.

For the farmers at Patch Farm, perennial herbs are the bookends of the growing season. They’re tended in early spring, allowed to flourish alongside the summer vegetables, and returned to again in fall for harvest. Each root carries with it a season of Maine sunshine, healthy soil, and the care of the farmers and families who grew it.

And when harvest time arrives, the roots are dug, washed, and shipped the very same day.

Come take a walk through the food forest and orchard at Meeting House Farm. 🌿

Emily shares a look at the pears, raspberries, blackberries, grapes, peaches, and more growing around the farm, along with some of the companion plants planted alongside them, including comfrey, yarrow, lady’s mantle, and bee balm.

This part of the farm is such a beautiful example of how plants can work together to nourish the soil, welcome beneficial insects, and create a healthier, more resilient growing system.

It’s been a little while since we’ve wandered through the gardens together, and early September feels like such a beautiful time to take another walk through Meeting House Farm. This time, Emily has a very special co-host joining her... Rahlo! 🐾

The garden is in that lovely in-between season, with some plants offering one last harvest while others are just beginning to tell us they’re ready.

Come along as Emily visits the lavender, ashwagandha, hawthorn, angelica, skullcap, and more, sharing what’s being harvested now, what still needs a little more time, and a few of the lessons the garden is offering along the way.
