The honey season is behind us, and the bees are still going strong, I checked them this week and they are healthy and thriving. Next up is the goldenrod bloom, which should help them pack on more honey and pollen that they’ll need for winter.

Reflecting on a great year of beekeeping so far! I had the chance to work with Bob Binney at Blue Ridge Honey Company in Lakemont, Georgia—learned so much from him. Sold 18 nuc colonies, produced 1,060 pounds of raw honey, and grew my apiary to nearly 40 colonies. One thing that really stuck with me from Bob is that the beekeeper’s calendar actually starts in August—that’s when the real work begins to keep the bees healthy, strong, and happy so they can survive the winter. Thank you to everyone who has been supporting my family an I!

The honey flow is coming to an end, we are waiting on a few more nectar sources to finish blooming like catalpa, mimosa and persimmon. It’s been a good year so far and we’re excited to have more honey out for sale.

Have you seen honey bees washboarding?
They line up on the hive entrance, rocking back and forth and scrubbing with their front legs like they’re cleaning the porch.
No one knows exactly why — maybe cleaning, pheromones, or just bee OCD — but it’s so cool to watch!

If your honey starts to look cloudy or forms crystals, don't worry it's completely natural.
Real, raw honey naturally crystallizes over time, especially when temperatures cool down. It's actually a good sign that your honey hasn't been overly processed.
Crystallized honey is still perfectly good to eat and tastes just as delicious. If you prefer it smooth again, simply place the jar in warm water and stir gently. Avoid overheating so the natural enzymes and benefits stay intact.
Honey doesn't go bad, it just changes form!
