🍽️✨ Holly & Rich’s Restaurant Review ✨🍽️
The Basics
• Restaurant: Perry’s Steakhouse & Grill
• Location: Schaumburg, IL
• Date We Rolled Up: March 14
• Visit Type: Dine in (double date + “let’s make a night of it” energy)

Vibe Check
Atmosphere:
Very boujee, in the best way. Elegant, upscale, and clearly designed for special moments. This is not a “quick bite” place; it’s a lean back, savor everything kind of experience.
Décor Thoughts:
Polished, refined, and absolutely date night ready. Moody lighting, luxe finishes, and an overall sense that something fancy is about to happen.
Crowd:
A mix of couples, celebrations, and people clearly treating themselves. Definitely an occasion spot.

Service Shenanigans
Top tier. Professional, attentive, and smooth without feeling stiff. The tableside elements were especially impressive, confident, knowledgeable, and perfectly timed.

The Food (Aka: Why People Go to Perry’s)
What We Ordered:
• Old Fashioneds (drinks to start, obviously)
• Perry’s Signature Fried Asparagus topped with jumbo lump crabmeat
• Signature wedge salad (prepared in the kitchen)
• Dinner Cut Pork Chop, carved tableside
• Corn Brûlée
• Au Gratin Potatoes
• Dessert Trio (seasonal cheesecake, lemon meringue square, chocolate crunch)
Taste Test:
The Old Fashioneds were excellent, smooth, well balanced, and the perfect way to kick things off.
The Signature Fried Asparagus with jumbo lump crabmeat was an immediate hit. Crispy, rich, and indulgent without being heavy. Absolute yum.
The wedge salad, prepared in the kitchen, was classic and well executed, cool, crisp, and a great lead in to what came next.
And then… the star of the show.
The Dinner Cut Pork Chop, carved tableside on a hot cast iron plate, was a full experience. Hand selected in the Midwest specifically for Perry’s, this chop is cured, roasted, slow smoked, caramelized, and served sizzling with homemade applesauce.
Holy awesome experience. Sweet, smoky, juicy, and unforgettable.
The sides only elevated things further:
• Corn Brûlée – who knew corn could be life changing?
• Au Gratin Potatoes – rich, creamy, and melt in your mouth delicious
Presentation:
Flawless. From tableside carving to beautifully plated sides, everything felt intentional and elevated.
Portion Size:
Generous, especially for the pork chop. Perfect for sharing or planning leftovers (if you have the willpower).

Drinks & Dessert (Tiny but Mighty)
The Dessert Trio was the perfect ending, small bites, big flavor:
• Seasonal cheesecake
• Lemon meringue square
• Dessert Trio
Tiny but tasty, and just enough sweetness to finish strong.

✨ Highlights
• Tableside pork chop experience
• Corn Brûlée (still thinking about it)
• Excellent cocktails
• Elevated sides that steal the spotlight
• A full “event dinner” from start to finish

Opportunities for Improvement
None, it delivered exactly what it promises. Just know what you’re signing up for: this is an experience, not a casual night out.

The Money Talk
• Price Range: Upscale
• Was It Worth It?: Yes, for a date, celebration, or special night
Bonus note: While it’s definitely an occasion spot, they do offer Happy Hour Sunday through Friday from 4:00–6:30 PM, with some great bar bite options, worth keeping in mind if you want a taste of Perry’s without going all in.

Final Thoughts
Perry’s Steakhouse & Grill is luxury dining done right. From cocktails to carving, every detail feels intentional and indulgent. If you’re celebrating something, or someone, this is absolutely the place.

The Food (Aka: The Reason We Over Ordered)
What We Ordered:
• Drinks
• Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings)
• Fried rice
• Beef dish
• Chicken dish
Taste Test:
For three people, this was wayyyy too much food, but every single bite was so darn tasty that no one was mad about it.
The Xiao Long Bao were a standout, rich, flavorful, and deeply comforting. Exactly what you want from soup dumplings.
The fried rice was perfectly done and paired beautifully with both the beef and chicken dishes, which were savory, satisfying, and full of flavor.
It was the kind of meal where you keep saying, “Okay, just one more bite,” even though you’re already full.

Simple, classic, and appetizing,no distractions, just good food done right.
Portion Size:
Very generous. Come hungry or be prepared for leftovers (not a complaint).

🍽️✨ Holly & Rich’s Restaurant Review - The Reboot ✨🍽️
The Basics
• Restaurant: Banging Gavel Brews at The Vogt House
• Location: Tinley Park, IL
• Date We Rolled Up: March 4
• Visit Type: Dine in (solo work trip dinner turned trivia night victory lap)

Vibe Check
Atmosphere:
Still warm, cozy, and charming, but with a little extra buzz thanks to trivia night. The kind of place where even if you walk in alone, you won’t feel that way for long.
Décor Thoughts:
Quaint, inviting, and full of character. That historic meets welcoming vibe that makes you want to stay for “just one more.”
Crowd:
A fun mix of locals, regulars, and trivia enthusiasts ready to bring the energy. Lively, but never chaotic.

Service Shenanigans
Fantastic as always. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Trivia night made it even better; I ended up partnering with two teachers who were in town for business and the owner himself. Safe to say, the hospitality here goes beyond the menu.
Bonus points: ½ price wine night. No notes. Perfect ex*****on.

The Food (Aka: The Reason I Came Back)
What I Ordered:
• Pimento cheese dip & fire crackers (again - because I’ve been craving them since last time)
• Potato pancakes (because… duh. Potato pancakes.)
• Yakitori chicken
Taste Test:
The pimento cheese dip & fire crackers? Just as crave worthy as I remembered, rich, flavorful, and impossible to stop eating.
The potato pancakes were exactly what they needed to be: crispy, comforting, and deeply satisfying. Zero regrets.
The yakitori chicken rounded everything out beautifully, savory, well balanced, and thoughtfully prepared.
Everything was, once again, delightfully delicious and proof that this menu has serious staying power.
Presentation:
Thoughtful, clean, and appetizing. Comfort food elevated just enough.
Portion Size:
Perfectly satisfying, enough to feel indulgent without being over the top.

Drinks & Dessert (Still Winning)
Between trivia night and ½ price wine, the vibes were immaculate. Excellent selection and a great excuse to linger longer than planned.
No dessert this time, but honestly, trivia glory was the sweetest treat.

✨ Highlights
• Trivia night energy (and teamwork with new friends)
• Consistency, everything I loved the first time still hits
• Fire crackers, I cannot stop thinking about
• ½ price wine night = instant win
• Winning trivia and walking out with a $20 gift card

Opportunities for Improvement
None. If anything, this visit confirmed that repeat trips are absolutely necessary.

The Money Talk
• Price Range: Very reasonable, especially with specials
• Was It Worth It?: 100%. Food, fun, and I literally left richer than I arrived.

Final Thoughts
Banging Gavel Brews at The Vogt House isn’t just a great first impression, it’s a great repeat experience. Whether you’re coming back for favorite dishes, trivia night, or just a cozy spot that feels instantly welcoming, this place delivers every time.
And now that I have a $20 gift card?
See you next week.

🍽️✨ Holly & Rich’s Restaurant Review ✨🍽️
The Basics

• Visit Type: Dine in (family dinner while Mom was living her best Florida life)

Vibe Check
Atmosphere:
Warm, welcoming, and instantly comfortable, the kind of place that makes you want to settle in and enjoy the experience without rushing.
Décor Thoughts:
Polished but approachable. Nothing stuffy, just a well done space that feels intentional and inviting.
Crowd:
A great mix, felt like a spot locals truly love. Lively without being overwhelming.

Service Shenanigans
The service was excellent from start to finish. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely knowledgeable about the menu. You could tell the staff actually cared about what they were serving—and they were more than happy to walk us through the specials (and there were tons of them).

The Food (Aka: The Reason We’re Here)
What We Ordered:
• Shish*to peppers (appetizer)
• Striploin “Manhattan” cut with roasted vegetables, crispy potatoes, slaw, bronze fennel & garlic butter, and F2F steak sauce
• Trout (special)
• Flourless chocolate cake
• Turtle cake
Taste Test:
Let’s start strong, the shish*to peppers were absolutely delicious. Perfectly prepared and a great way to kick things off.
Both my brother and I ordered the Striploin “Manhattan” cut, and wow. I had never had this particular cut before, but dang… it’s amazing. Cooked beautifully, full of flavor, and paired perfectly with the roasted vegetables, crispy potatoes, and slaw. The bronze fennel and garlic butter were a fantastic touch.
And the F2F steak sauce? So good we ordered an extra side. Zero regrets.
Papa Bill went with the trout special, and it was just as tasty, fresh, well balanced, and clearly a solid choice.
Presentation:
Beautifully plated without being overdone, clean, appetizing, and definitely photo worthy.
Portion Size:
Generous and satisfying. No one left hungry, and everything felt well portioned for the quality.

Drinks & Dessert (Highly Encouraged and Fully Enjoyed)
Fire2Fork has a great wine selection, which paired nicely with dinner.
For dessert, we went all in:
• The flourless chocolate cake was rich, decadent, and deeply satisfying.
• The turtle cake? Straight up drool worthy. A perfect, indulgent ending to the meal.

✨ Highlights
• The Striploin “Manhattan” cut (new favorite)
• That incredible F2F steak sauce
• Knowledgeable, friendly service
• Desserts that truly delivered
• A menu packed with tempting specials
Bonus highlight: they occasionally offer brunch, and it’s now officially on my must do list—especially since they offer unlimited tapas (yes please).

Opportunities for Improvement
Honestly, this was a really strong experience. No major notes, just a reminder that we need to come back for brunch.

The Money Talk
• Price Range: Feels appropriate for the quality and experience
• Was It Worth It?: Absolutely. This felt like a treat and a total win.

Final Thoughts
Fire2Fork delivers on all fronts, warm atmosphere, excellent service, a menu that clearly has heart behind it, and food that makes you want to come back and explore more. Whether it’s a special night out or a “let’s enjoy something really good” kind of dinner, this place hits the mark.

Truly delicious, memorable, and worth talking about after you leave.

🍕 Pizz’amici Restaurant Review 🍕
The Basics
• Restaurant: Pizz’amici
• Location: Chicago, IL
• Date We Rolled Up: March 6, 2026
• Visit Type: Dine in - bar seating + walk in magic

Vibe Check
Atmosphere:
Warm, bustling, and neighborhood cool. Pizz’amici feels like a spot people really love, the kind of place you plan for, pine after, and celebrate once you finally get inside.
Décor Thoughts:
Simple and inviting with a focus on the food. Nothing distracting, just cozy energy that lets the pizza shine.
Crowd:
Busy, sought after, and clearly reservation challenged. A mix of determined diners, happy bar sitters, and people who knew exactly what they were doing.

Service Shenanigans
After weeks of striking out on reservations, we messaged the restaurant and learned the bar is first come, first serve, and they do try to accommodate walk ins. Armed with hope, we jumped on the Red Line, walked the rest of the way (a hike, but sooo worth it), and walked in to find two open seats at the bar. Absolute perfection.
Service was friendly, efficient, and welcoming, never rushed, despite how busy they were.

The Food (Aka: The Reason We’re Here)
What We Ordered:
• Caesar salad
• 14" pizza with sausage, pepperoni & Mike’s Hot Honey drizzle
Taste Test:
This pizza is exactly our style. Cracker thin crust, plentiful toppings, and baked well done by default, no need to ask, which we loved because that’s our favorite way anyway.
The sausage and pepperoni brought the savory punch, and the Mike’s Hot Honey added that sweet heat contrast. Rich felt the hot honey tipped it into “too many toppings” territory, but I absolutely loved it. Balance is subjective, and this one worked for me.
Presentation:
The photos tell a story:
• Pizza arrival (pure excitement)
• The pizza arrow (LOL)
• Pizza slice #1
• And finally… when we threw in the towel
They only serve one size, the 14", and despite our best efforts, we could not finish it.
Portion Size:
Generous and filling. One pizza easily feeds two hungry people.

Drinks & Dessert (Optional but Highly Encouraged)
Pizz’amici has a full bar. The wine selection is limited, but thoughtfully curated, everything offered is very good. Solid cocktails, solid pours, and great pairing options for pizza night.

Highlights
• Cracker thin, well done pizza done right
• Walk in bar seating win after weeks of reservation attempts
• Toppings that don’t hold back
• A city walk that reminded us how beautiful Chicago truly is
(And yes, the other photos from our walk to Pizz’amici deserve their own shout out. I am always amazed at what a beautiful city Chicago is).

Opportunities for Improvement
Reservations are tough to land, but knowing about the bar and walk in option changes everything. A little flexibility goes a long way here.

The Money Talk
• Price Range: Fair for quality and portion size
• Was It Worth It?: 100% yes, especially after earning it with a walk and some transit commitment

Final Thoughts
Pizz’amici delivers exactly what it promises: outstanding thin crust pizza, cooked the right way, in a warm and welcoming space. Between the journey, the bar seat luck, and the final slice surrender, this dinner felt like a true Chicago experience.

⭐ Rating - The Food Joy Scale
🌟 Big Smile Energy
Truly delicious and memorable.

Would We Come Back?
Yes, next time with the confidence of a seasoned bar seat believer (and maybe slightly stretchier pants).

🍽️ Au Cheval Restaurant Review 🍽️
The Basics
• Restaurant: Au Cheval
• Location: Chicago, IL
• Date We Rolled Up: March 6, 2026 (aka one of many repeat visits)
• Visit Type: Dine in - bar seating win

Vibe Check
Atmosphere:
Lively, buzzy, and always full of energy. Au Cheval is one of those places where you feel the hype the second you walk in. It’s busy, loud in the best way, and unmistakably cool.
Décor Thoughts:
Classic Au Cheval, dim lighting, vintage tavern vibes, and a timeless aesthetic that feels effortlessly Chicago. Nothing flashy, just confident and comfortable.
Crowd:
Always packed. A mix of locals, burger pilgrims, and first timers ready to experience the smashburger legend. The wait can be long, but patience is rewarded.

Service Shenanigans
Despite the crowds, service remains solid and efficient. On this particular visit, the stars aligned and we snagged two seats at the bar, which felt like winning the Au Cheval lottery. Staff kept things moving, drinks flowing, and the experience seamless.

The Food (Aka: The Reason We’re Here)
What We Ordered:
• The Burger (because of course)
• Fries (sadly undocumented, but essential)
Taste Test:
We’ve been here a kabillion times for one reason: this smashburger never misses. The single is actually a double, the double is basically a triple, and every version delivers. It’s rich, indulgent, perfectly griddled, and consistently crave worthy.
The burger comes stacked with pickles, griddled onions, dijonnaise, and sharp American cheese, a flawless balance of salty, tangy, creamy, and savory. It’s the kind of burger that makes conversation stop for a minute.
Presentation:
Classic and no nonsense. Pretty enough for a photo (and yes, we got one of the burger), but the real beauty is in the ex*****on.
Portion Size:
Generous and deeply satisfying. You will leave full and happy.

Drinks & Dessert (Optional but Highly Encouraged)
Au Cheval has a full bar and makes some truly delightful concoctions. Whether you’re going classic or trying something more creative, the cocktails are well balanced and thoughtfully done, an ideal pairing for such a rich menu.

Highlights
• One of the best smashburgers out there, hands down
• Perfectly timed bar seating on a usually packed day
• Crispy fries that absolutely complete the meal
• A menu with serious depth beyond the burger
Also Worth a Try:
Bone marrow, fried bologna sandwich, crispy fries, crispy potato hash, just to name a few. We’ve sampled plenty over the years, and the menu continues to impress.

Opportunities for Improvement
The wait can be long, but honestly, that’s part of the deal. If anything, showing up at the right time (or getting lucky at the bar) is the real pro tip.

The Money Talk
• Price Range: Moderate for the quality and portion sizes
• Was It Worth It?: Absolutely. Every single time.

Final Thoughts
Au Cheval remains a gold standard for burgers. No matter how many times we return, it delivers the same “wow” factor. The consistency, flavor, and overall experience keep us coming back again and again, and we’re not mad about it.

🍽️✨ Holly & Rich’s Restaurant Review
The Primal Cut - Tinley Park, IL ✨🍽️
The Basics
• Restaurant: The Primal Cut
• Location: Tinley Park, Illinois
• Date I Rolled Up: Tuesday, March 3, 2026
• Visit Type: Solo dinner while traveling for work

Vibe Check
Atmosphere:
Warm, dark, cozy, and absolutely buzzing for a Tuesday night. Even sitting at the bar felt intimate and relaxed, the perfect blend of upscale steakhouse and neighborhood hangout.
Décor Thoughts:
Rich wood, moody lighting, and a polished vibe that makes the bar feel like a little retreat. Great ambiance for dining alone but still wanting to feel part of the energy around you.
Crowd:
Lively, chatty, and clearly full of regulars who know this is the spot.

Service Shenanigans
Tori was my bartender, and let me just say, an absolute star.
She was professional, witty, attentive, and on the ball the entire time. The kind of bartender who makes you feel taken care of without hovering. Her eyes were always up, she handled a busy bar with ease, and her humor made the experience even better.
Huge shoutout to her.

The Food (Aka: The Reason We’re Here)
What I Ordered:
• Beef filet tips with mushrooms, caramelized onions & roasted garlic
• Maine lobster bites
• Au gratin potatoes
Taste Test:
Everything came out piping hot, perfectly seasoned, and absolutely delicious.
The beef filet tips were tender, flavorful, and beautifully balanced with the mushrooms, onions, and roasted garlic. Pure comfort in a skillet.
The Maine lobster bites were rich, buttery, and indulgent, a perfect pairing with the steak bites.
And those au gratin potatoes?
I knew I wasn’t going to finish everything, but I had to try them. Creamy, cheesy, decadent… absolutely worth the over ordering.
Presentation:
Classic steakhouse style, polished but hearty. Zero complaints.
Portion Size:
Let’s just say:
I don’t know what I was thinking.
There was no chance I was finishing all that food, but every bite was worth it.

Drinks & Dessert
Yes, I of course had their Old Fashioned, and it was outstanding, smooth, balanced, and exactly the vibe for a cozy bar night.
Then a Maker’s Mark rep walked around handing out Old Fashioneds, and suddenly I’m questioning whether I’m a Maker’s Mark girl now instead of a Bulleit girl. Identity crisis pending.
I did peek at the dessert menu, but I had absolutely zero room left. Tragic.
Highlights:
• Tori’s fantastic service
• Double Old Fashioned moment
• The filet tips
• The lobster bites
• The au gratin potatoes (dangerously good)

Opportunities for Improvement
None, unless they want to offer a “solo diner sampler” size for those of us with ambitious hearts and small stomachs.

The Money Talk
• Price Range: Upper mid to higher, typical steakhouse pricing
• Was It Worth It?: Absolutely, quality food, amazing service, and memorable drinks

Final Thoughts
The Primal Cut delivers cozy steakhouse luxury with friendly bar side energy. Tori made the evening feel warm and effortless, and the food was incredible. The only thing I regret is not having room for dessert.
Well… that and leaving my debit card behind.
But honestly?
That just means I have to go back. What a shame.

⭐ Rating - The Food Joy Scale
🌟 Big Smile Energy - delicious food, warm service, and unforgettable drinks.

🍽️✨ Holly & Rich’s Restaurant Review: Cafe Bionda - South Loop ✨🍽️
The Basics
• Restaurant: Café Bionda
• Location: South Loop, Chicago
• Date We Rolled Up: Recently, and I’m still thinking about it
• Visit Type: Dine in (and absolutely “I deserved this treat today”)

Vibe Check
Atmosphere:
Warm, lively, and classic, the kind of spot that feels simultaneously special and comfortable. It has that South Loop energy where people look like they have plans after dinner, but are happily derailed by carbs and good cocktails.
Décor Thoughts:
Italian chic without trying too hard. Warm lighting, timeless décor, and a subtle “you’re about to eat something amazing” elegance.
Crowd:
Busy but not chaotic. A mix of date nighters, people celebrating something, and folks who clearly know this is one of the gems of the neighborhood.

Service Shenanigans
Service was exceptional, attentive without hovering, friendly without being overly familiar, and very proud of the tableside dishes (as they should be). Everything felt effortless and welcoming.
Honestly, I’m grateful this place isn’t closer to my house… because I’d be on a first name basis with the whole staff by now and probably 20% pasta by volume.

The Food (Aka: The Reason We’re Here)
What We Ordered:
• Truffle Cacio e Pepe (tableside preparation, yes, the drama!!)
• Whipped ricotta with hot honey
• Caesar salad
• Mixed berry sorbet
Taste Test:
Let’s start with the headliner: the truffle cacio e pepe. Absolutely life changing, in the food awakening sort of way. Watching it come together tableside felt like witnessing edible magic, and the flavor delivered: rich, silky, aromatic, and completely illegal feeling in the best way.
The whipped ricotta with hot honey was cloud soft, lightly sweet, perfectly balanced, and dangerously spoon able.
The Caesar was crisp, cool, and classic, no notes.
The mixed berry sorbet felt like the fresh, bright apology after all that truffle and cheese.
Presentation:
Elevated but not fussy. The tableside pasta is a showstopper. Everything else looked clean, intentional, and appetizing.
Portion Size:
Generous. Like, “if this was any closer to my house I would need a budget line for pasta expenditures” generous.

Drinks & Dessert
The Old Fashioned was serious business, balanced, bold, and smooth.
The sorbet did, in fact, restore my faith in moderation (briefly).
Highlights:
• The truffle cacio e pepe (I could write poetry about it)
• The ricotta + hot honey combination
• The stellar service
• That Old Fashioned, which could calm an existential crisis

Opportunities for Improvement
Truly none, unless they want to stop making everything so delicious because I cannot be trusted around that pasta.

The Money Talk
• Price Range: Mid to high, but appropriate for quality + performance value
• Was It Worth It?: Absolutely. Felt like a treat, a moment, and a celebration all at once.

Final Thoughts
Café Bionda delivers Italian comfort with flair, impeccable service, and a pasta dish that may have altered my personality. It’s probably for the best that it’s not around the corner, but I’m already plotting my return.

⭐ Rating - The Food Joy Scale
🌈 Life Enhancing Bite, the cacio e pepe alone earns this score.

Would We Come Back?
Yes, and next time I’m bringing friends who need their lives changed by truffle.
