There are six grape varieties allowed by Champagne appellation. The most popular are Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay, the rarest one is Arbane, which has almost completely disappeared since XIX century. As a matter of fact there are only 5 acres of Arbane vines growing in the entire Champagne region. All 5 acres belong to Moutard Pere et Fils. To protect tradition of southern Champagne growing region and to keep this inimitable taste alive, Moutard continues to produce this very rare Champagne from old vines, planted personally by Lucien Moutard in 1952. Our Champagne is a single vintage from 2009. This Champagne is made only every 3-5 years. The total production in 2009 was 3,000 bottles.
