Dutch Hollow Farm

Dutch Hollow Farm Established in 1976, Dutch Hollow is a third generation family dairy farm. Our farm is home to 1,650 Registered Jerseys, with a milking herd of about 950 cows.

We also work 2,000 acres to grow crops to feed our cows. Caring for our cows and growing the crops that feed them are our passions! We are proud to do those jobs everyday with a dedicated team of employees and three generations of the Chittenden family working alongside one another. If you are interested in learning more about our operation, send us a message! We also love to host tours and bring

our community members to see the farm. To set up a tour for your family, school, or organization contact us today!

Was nice to finally get out into the fields today! Our crew started injecting manure into a rye cover crop which is one of the first steps in growing this years corn crop.

is important for the cows here at Dutch Hollow Farm and after 20ish years it was time to change out old mattresses and stalls for new ones. As you can see, the old mattresses were starting to tear and the cushion was starting to give out. Similarly, the old stalls were starting to rust and break out and were at the end of their useful life. The crew at ASAP Interiors (along with some demolition help from the crop crew) came in and changed out 72 stalls and mattresses in just a little over a day. The cows approve, as you can see in the last picture!

We have harvested our crops and now we are busy spreading nature's fertilizer, A.K.A. cow manure! Neighbors may have noticed a different set up this year - the yellow box you see on the edge of the road is called a "Frac Tank." It's basically a sealed shipping container with a pump on it. Our manure trucks pull up to the tank and unload into it, then a tractor in the field can pull up to the frac tank and fill up their tank by using a remote that turns on the pump. This set up allows our trucks to remain on the road and the tractor in the field to keep the road clean. Thank you to our neighbors at Wil-Roc Farm for allowing us to borrow their frac tank and thank you to our other neighbors for their patience while we are working in the fields!

We'd like to take a moment to honor the memory of a great man that was laid to rest this week. Kenny Golden was a farmer 'til the end! We are grateful for his years of dedication to helping us get our crops harvested, but more importantly for years of friendship that span multiple generations.

We're so glad that we had the good fortune to have him on our team for one more season and that Kenny was able to continue doing what he loved as long as he could. It won't be the same seeing his dump truck go by without him waving from the window! Our hearts go out to his family. Kenny will be greatly missed!

Corn silage harvest season is in full swing even though field conditions are not ideal. We appreciate everyone's patience while our trucks are out on the road. We are doing our best to clean the road up behind us from the muddy fields. Again, thank you neighbors for all your patience while we make our !

1st cutting was earlier than normal, but we were right on the money with quality.

2nd cutting things were dry, but yielded better than expected.

3rd cutting was a battle with the rain but we finished yesterday after a few pauses and some long days to get this crop off between raindrops, but what a crop it has been!

While Mother Nature always likes to keep it interesting, we can thank the extra rainfall this month for giving us one of our highest yielding 3rd cuttings ever!

As always, we'd like to send a big "thank you" to our neighbors for their patience during harvest time 🐮

We're wrapping up our school tour season and taking a second to reflect back on the many students we got to host on the farm this spring!

There were so many wonderful questions, enthusiastic comments and such genuine excitement from these kids (and their parents/chaperones/teachers 😊) and we are grateful that we had the opportunity to show them where their milk and dairy products come from!

All together we saw students from 6 different local school districts ranging from 1st to 3rd grade, a preschool group, a high school environmental science class, and a college vet tech program.

We look forward to the summer camps scheduled the end of the month to round out our season!
