GEM Farms No Farms. No Food. It was not until 1973, when the first buffalo cow, calf, and bull were purchased to begin the fun of having a herd of buffalo.

The Mesick's family farm began in 1793, where an immigrant from Southern Germany, Fritz Mesick, purchased approximately 100 acres in South Schodack where they established a dairy farm. This original piece of land is still in the Mesick family today, along with new additions of land making it approximately a total of 600 acres. We now have approximately 85 buffalo, give or take a few horns. Along

with our buffalo, we also have beefer cows that we acquired in 2005. Both of these herds are grass fed and are not given grain or antibiotics. You can find frozen cuts of both kinds of meat in our farm store along with many other gift items. Our store is open all throughout the year on Saturday's and Sunday's from 12:00 - 4:00 or throughout the week by appointment. Not only do we have our farm store, we also have our farm stand during the summer and fall! At our farm stand you can find all sorts of vegetables including our famous sweet corn! Vegetables include zucchini, yellow squash, cucumbers, cabbage, peppers, tomatoes, and egg plant. In the fall we sell jack-o-lantern pumpkins, pie pumpkins, white pumpkins, gourds, acorn squash, delicata squash, spaghetti squash, butternut squash, straw bails, and corn stalks. There is something for everyone! Stop on by and don't hesitate to say hello! Enjoy the view and take pictures.

The society we currently live in is changing and is difficult to navigate which is the best direction to follow. We have received many messages, calls and visits and we feel the need to address our bison. We had to make the difficult decision to no longer continue in our bison ventures. This decision was not an easy one to make. Although we were known as the Bison/Buffalo farm it was never our main focus. We will continue our business as usual with hay/straw, produce and beef cattle. Planting will soon commence for our 2026 season, bringing fresh produce and products for our community filled with family and friends.

Thank you-
The Mesick Family
