Oma Herbal Teas

Oma Herbal Teas Oma Herbal Teas is a small herb farm located in Schwenksville, PA. Oma is run by Nicole Boice with the help of Doug Boice and, of course, little Mina.

We grow, dry, and package the herbs at our homestead for use in tea blends, tinctures, and fire cider. Who We Are: Oma Herbal Teas is a small, family owned business that grows medicinal herbs, primarily for our unique tea blends. We grow, dry, and package all of the herbs on our family’s one acre homestead in Schwenksville, PA with the exception of Stinging Nettles and Red Raspberry leaf, which ar

e ethically wildcrafted from Chester County. Our goal is to share the restorative power of herbs with the local community by providing those of the highest quality. Our Practices: Our deep respect for the earth and big picture understanding of our p[ace in it is the driving force behind our holistic farming practices. Although we are not certified organic, we use organic methods, including no synthetic chemical sprays, crop rotation, planting to attract beneficials, and no till methods. Our herbs: We grow, harvest, and dry our herbs on a small scale for maximum nutrient retention. Many larger commercial tea producers dry their herbs at a high temperature for faster drying. At these temperatures many of the flavorful and medicinal essential oils are lost. On top of that, most commercial producers crush their herbs before packaging, prematurely releasing the aromatics and leaving the tea with a lackluster flavor. Our herbs are dried below 110 degrees in small batches and kept as whole as possible in order to preserve biochemical compounds. We give back: We donate various resources to causes local and abroad. In 2017, we donated several pounds of lemongrass to the Cancer Support Community of Philadelphia. This year we are also giving $1 form each bag of our Baby Bump Tea sold to The Fistula Foundation.

Hosting another workshop in a few weeks! Join me in the garden on Sunday, June 22nd for a hands on tincture making workshop. We'll explore the herbs in the garden, learn about their healing properties, then participants will have the oppotunity to harvest herbs to make their own custom tincture!

Lots of people ask what a tincture is. If you're not familiar, tinctures are a liquid extraction of an herb. To make a tincture, herbs are steeped in alcohol for a few weeks to draw out the phytochemicals in the plant. The plant material is then strained out and you are left with all of the magical compunds that give the plant it's medicinal value. Tinctures are a wonderful and quick way to get herbs into your diet.

The St. John's Wort will be in bloom soon so it's a good time to learn about this herb's wonderful properties. It's one of the most beautiful tinctures I make. The compounds in its bright yellow flowers turn to a beaitiful, vibrant red when tinctured. It has been traditionally used to treat mild to moderate depression, to treat inflammation, and balance hormones. Many studies have confirmed St. John's Wort's mood boosting properties. This week's tincture spotlight is echinacea. This herb has been used throughout history to boost immunity, helping the body fight a wide variety of infections. Its anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties make it ideal for combatting upper respiratory infections. Studies have shown it can reduce the duration and severity of the common cold. Our tincture uses a combination of the root, leaves, and flowers. If you're feeling run down or like your immune system needs a little kick, this is a great one to reach for.

Valerian root is one of the most popular herbal sedatives, traditionally used to calm the nervous system, ease tension, and promote restful sleep. Compunds in valerian root can help increase levels of GABA in the brain. GABA is a relaxing neurotransimitter that can help reduce anxiety, stress, and fear. Because of valerian root's ability to calm the body it also has the potential to lower high blood pressure due to stress. Check out our website at the link in bio for the full tincture line up!

*What is health coaching?*
Health coaches partner with clients to help them achieve their wellness goals. Many times in life, we know what is best for our health and are aware of what we should be doing, but for some reason we still aren’t doing it. A health coach can help to identify client strengths and barriers, craft a vision of the client’s best self, and set achievable and sustainable goals to get there. We take a holistic view of health and work on all layers of wellness as desired by the client. Health coaches are not doctors or therapists. We are not able to diagnose or treat any conditions but we do partner with clients to educate, listen to concerns in a judgement free zone, and help clients work toward realizing their best selves.

The roots have been traditionally used to stimulate digestion, promote healthy liver function, help balance blood sugar, and aid in detoxification, including excess estrogen. This is one of our best selling tinctures! Link in bio to find out more and see the full tincture line up.
