✨🌻🐄 Farmschool 🐄🌻✨
We spend our Fridays learning outdoors through play and sensory engagement with all things farm and nature. Farmschool runs through the traditional school year, separated into three sessions: Autumn, Winter, and Spring. Autumn session will begin in early September. Parents have the option to enroll for the "school year" or by season.
What is Farmschool?
Farmschool is a homeschool enrichment (+pre school) program for “farmers” ages 3-12. Each day focuses on hands-on agricultural learning with developmentally appropriate activities and free play. Taught by a Licensed Professional Counselor/farmer, we will explore with our senses and get to experience life on the farm!
Topics for deeper exploration may include: animal husbandry, milking Sunshine the cow, snuggling baby animals, life cycle of a chicken, pond ecology, the importance of soil, wool from sheep to sweaters, where food comes from, pollinators who they are and what they do, parts of a flower, etc.
Rhythm loosely based on Waldorf and forest school principles.
Camp is held rain or shine, weather appropriate clothing required. Snack provided, BYO lunch and water bottle.
Ages 3-12, this mixed age model allows for students to share skills and knowledge with each other, engage in problem solving and cooperative learning, inspire play and wonder, help one another, exercise leadership, build confidence, practice social skills, communication and setting boundaries, and so on.
Animals found at Slate Ochre Farmstead include cows, sheep, pigs, goats, chickens, ducks, turkeys, guinea fowl, geese, dogs, and cats.
