FarOur Story
Local family-owned greenhouse business located on a Century Farm with the 4th and 5th generations operating the farm. We currently have a cow/calf operation and sell our free range chicken eggs along with the green house operation. We grow a variety of vegetable, flower, herb and shrub plants which we sell at the green house from April - June and September - October. We are at the Charlottesville City Market from April - October. Also we sell our plants to folks that raise produce and some local stores.
Even though we are not certified organic, our plants grow without chemicals and thrive on spring water. Modesto (Indian word for land of many springs) was chosen by my great grandfather because we can see 14 springs/streams from the yard of our home. The focus of the farm has changed through the years as times change with customers interests.
We received the Clean Water Award from the Thomas Jefferson Soil and Water conservation district several years ago because we have fenced the cattle out of all the ponds, springs and streams as well as built “
