I hope everyone had a great 25/26 hunting season! This was by far our slowest tracking season yet, but I’m not mad about it. Cooper was suffering from one hell of an ear infection and despite treatment it worsened. It drove down his performance and motivation significantly. We are battling it with a specialist now and hope to see improvement soon. Also, I am at a point in my life where I am hunting more and more. I have several new spots I’m hunting as well as I got the opportunity to enjoy some out of state hunting this season. I don’t post much on my social media but we do still track for hunters. I am hoping that during the offseason Ethel continues to grow in her tracking abilities as to have a secondary tracking dog. If y’all are anything like me, you are already counting down till the 26/27 season! Thank you to everyone who reached out for our help this season and we look forward to helping y’all again next year.

We’ve got some cooler mornings coming up on Saturday and Sunday and hopefully the deer move a bit more. Feel free to give us a call if you need help or think you’ll need help finding your deer. Also, I’ve got another young dog that needs more experience so if you’re close to the Kaufman area and have a known down deer and are willing to let me run my young one on it, that would be great!

Got a call for a track on Saturday morning for an 11 year old girls’ first deer ever. We pulled up and this girl had the biggest smile I think I’ve seen on a kid her age. We got to the hit site and things weren’t looking great. Bolt was stuck in the tree about 8ft behind where the deer would have been standing but was firmly embedded only 2 inches above the ground in the tree trunk. The bolt had zero blood and was covered in clean fat. Cooper showed little interest but tracked for about 150 yards before giving me the signal that this was not a dead deer. Only a few droplets of blood along the way. It was heartbreaking watching the young girl cry when I told her that this deer wasn’t dead and That I didn’t think the shot was fatal. It’s a tough thing to hear at any age I guess. I encouraged her to keep her chin up and keep practicing because she would likely see this deer again in a week or two.
36 hours later I got a text and a picture from her father stating that the buck was already back on camera and had a small wound where the arrow hit. I’ll take a “confirmed alive” any day!

Tomorrow is the day!!! If it’s legal and it makes you happy then pull that trigger! Never be ashamed of a deer you’ve chosen to take. You won’t get any judgement here. Meat is meat and it all eats good! Remember to breathe, aim and let that arrow fly. If you need any help at all finding your deer then give us a call.

3 days and counting! Make your hunting checklist and check it twice. I know it’s still warm here in Texas and everyone wants to find their deer quickly but remember A DEAD DEER DOES NOT RUN!
- wait for the best shot opportunity and don’t rush it.
- pay attention to where the arrow hit if at all possible.
- how did the deer react when hit? Hunched over and walked out? Mule kicked and ran? Tail up or down?
- remember the deers direction of travel after being shot.
- unless you see the deer crash it is a good idea to wait at least an hour to track.
- it is acceptable to go to the hit site to see if there is blood. Take a picture of it. As blood dries it will become darker in color.
- If you see the deer alive in a bed BACK OUT!
- remember these deer can run miles if you bump them from their bed, despite their injuries.
- If a tracker tells you to wait several hours please trust us. Most Tracking teams are experienced and want to find your deer just as badly as you do.
- DO NOT GRID SEARCH! This will spread the deers scent everywhere and make it much more difficult for the dog to track. If you lose blood call a tracking team.

Feel free to call day or night for advice or to request us to come track.
