So many vines! After a chill few weeks, our fall event season is here with full installs each weekend until the end of October. We work with East Texas Smilax sourced vines to green tent poles, entrances, and dance floor ceilings. I especially loved this install from last year (first pic) that integrated florals into the vining. Many hands on deck to make this all happen!! Let’s goooo!

After 14 years, we said goodbye to our sweet Max this week. Forever the gentlest soul down for all the adventures, I got him when he was 8 weeks old and he was by my side at many farm jobs. Caring for him taught me how to care for myself and he was the most patient companion a boy could ask for. We will miss him everyday, but are eased knowing he is at rest from the dementia and pain of his last year. Love you buddy ❤️❤️

Zinnia season comin in HOT with all the sunset vibes. Each year we tweak the variety selection just a bit to match up with our events’ color palettes. Very into this line up and for Matt! absolutely crushing it as the field manager.

Dahlia update!! This is the make it or break it year on dahlias in our annual field- they are a lotttt of work (planting, weeding, digging, dividing, bagging blooms etc) with some years only yielding a handful of blooms off thousand plants before the frost kills them all. To help us make the decision around if we keep growing them we have been tracking our time we spend on them alongside their other inputs (replacement tubers, compost, etc). Already we may have found the trick to make it worth it for us in this cold corner??

We pre sprouted 75% of our tubers early April in bulb crates of used potting soil from Seek-No-Further Farmstead tulip production. These were grown in the propagation house for a month + before planting out green and rooted plants (swipe for pic). We started harvesting blooms from these at the mid July, around 4 weeks earlier than last year 🎉. Yes it’s added labor to presprout but I thinkkkk those extra weeks of stems will make up for it?! Here’s hoping we have a strong dahlia harvest through October. Or maybe they’ve just fooled me once again into staying on the production list. (For context we usually only have June- August as reliably frost free growing months)
