I logged in today to share some bittersweet news with all of you. We recently made the very sad decision to close our farm down. It has been our passion and our priority for many years, and thanks to all of you, we have experienced steady growth each season. But our lives abruptly moved in another direction and we are moving to a new home. We couldn’t sustain the farm during this very busy time in our lives, no matter how hard we tried to make it work.

So our barns are empty for the first time in seven years. No one had to do chores this morning for the first time in as long. Our hearts are heavy but we look forward to settling into our new family home. Who knows? Maybe we’ll be back in the livestock game someday. In the meantime, we are happy to suggest local pork producers for you.

And lastly, I cannot ever express the depth of our gratitude to all of you for buying pork, for listening to us wax poetic about the marbling in a shoulder steak, for supporting our desire to educate others about the importance of pasturing hogs, for helping us build barns and catch loose pigs... The love is real. ❤️ ✌️

If you think raising pigs in cages is humane, then watch how happy these guys are to be released onto some fresh ground after a long winter in their smaller pen. Happy pigs equals healthy meat!

Billie is such a patient sow. Her instincts are beautiful. We couldn’t ask for a better breeder. By the way, check out those pink baby snoots! The cutest! 🐽

Farrowing is underway! Billie is up to 13 squirmy piglings and still going. Every time she gets a good push in, I find myself holding my breath and pushing with her. We moms work together, I guess. Happy Spring to one and all. 🌱🍀

Hey, y'all! The online shop (https://frenchroad.farm/shop/) is up and running and now we deliver! We have some new items including a five pound sausage box, which is a mix of whatever we want to give you. But trust us, it's all good. It's a fun way to mix up your menu for the week. We also need to sell some lard so we have room for fresh inventory in our freezers! Take the time to render your own lard for baking--you won't regret it.

We’ve also included wholesale deposits in the store. If you haven't ordered your half or whole hog yet, you can order it directly from the store by paying your deposit.

As always, contact us if you have any questions!

WOW! Thanks for all the love after yesterday’s announcement! Wholesale shares are moving like hot cakes (side of bacon). I still have some left, so if you want to fill your freezer this spring, get on the list!

Lots of love to you all. With a side of bacon. 💕 🥓

🚨 Triple announcement!

Part one: The farm is moving! Life is a funny thing. Circumstances have compelled us to relocate our farm to the Newport area. This is a good thing for us, though we are sad to leave such a supportive and lovely community. Which leads me to...

Part two: Sadly, we have had to drop out of the Camden Farmers’ Market. We had hoped to be members of that market for many more seasons, but sometimes life just has other plans. As a result, I present...

Part three: The hogs we had planned to have for market are now available for wholesale! It’s not often we have a bonus wholesale event, but here we are. We’re doing things a bit differently this time. We usually charge a flat rate based on average pig size. However, these pigs vary a bit in weight due to breed and age, so we’re going to charge hanging weight at slaughter.

If you would like to order a half or a whole, please send us a message, call, or email. There is a $200 deposit for a whole, $100 for a half. The pigs will be cut, flash frozen, and delivered at the end of April or the end of March, depending on how quickly you get on the list. Your deposit is used toward the cost of the pig.

Thank you all for all the support you’ve shown us during our formative years here in Searsmont. And don’t write us off just yet. We’re still going to be the French Road Farm, whether we live on the French Road or not. We’d be honored if you allow us to remain midcoasters at heart, and we’d love to continue to supply your freezers with quality pork for years to come. ❤️

From the bottoms of our hearts, we are thankful for all of our friends, neighbors, and customers who helped make this a banner year. We are especially thankful for the friends and neighbors who helped me wrangle a 600 pound boar back into his pen after he broke through three fences to rendezvous with the sows.

But truly, we have so much to be thankful for, not least of which our health. Thank you for staying safe and well and for loving your neighbors. Peace be with you all during this trying holiday season.

One thing about a pandemic is there’s always a mask handy for hauling hay. Hay dust is the worst.
