I’m a bit embarrassed to say...

It took me way too long to visit ’s new location, especially since it’s just a 5 minute drive from my house!

To be fair, most of that time I was either pregnant or taking care of a newborn, so I’ll cut myself some slack.

After my visit this past weekend though, I’ll be visiting with much more frequency as Mr.Cork & Fizz and I are officially members of their wine club!

Located at 10000 Lake City Way, is an urban winery in Seattle that not only makes delicious wine, but it’s also run by such friendly, knowledgable, and just overall wonderful people. We were lucky enough to get to have the assistant winemaker, Pete, pouring our tastes for us. He did such a great job of explaining different wine terms and teaching us about the wine and the vineyards where they grow the grapes.

My favorite wine of the day was a toss up between the Mourvèdre Rosé and the Southern Voyage which was a Grenache dominant Rhone blend. My mom and husband both loved the Malbec.

I can’t wait to introduce all of our friends to this amazing spot!

Bonus points: Eight Bells is baby and dog friendly!

Have you ever heard of a field blend?

It’s the traditional way of making a wine blend. Nowadays winemakers will typically make wine from each grape separately and then mix at the end.

In the early days of winemaking, different grape varieties would be planted together and thus picked and fermented together. There’s a ton of chemistry that goes on during fermentation so mixing the grapes before hand will create a totally different wine than mixing afterwards.

This mixing of grapes before fermentation is called “co-fermentation.”

For example, co-fermenting a small amount of Viognier with Syrah results in a darker colored wine (even though Viognier is a white wine!)

Pretty cool, right?

Costco’s Kirkland Signature wines are one of their best examples of a great deal!

Of course they benefit from Costco’s very slim mark-ups (due to their membership model) but they also cut out the middleman. Costco acts as its own importer and distributor, often buying directly from wineries to eliminate any additional fees.

And the best part is that these wines aren’t just random bulk wines! Many are made by the same great winemakers every year (they just don’t put their names on the bottle!)

Which pairing are you most excited to try?

🤔 Did you know?

Most single varietal wines (aka wines labeled with a single grape variety) go through the same blending process as wines made with multiple grape varieties!

If you’re still reaching for German wine expecting only off-dry Riesling, you are missing out on an entire world of flavor!

In Part 2 of my interview with Lisa Tupetz () and Max Greiner (), we’re exploring the incredible diversity coming out of Germany’s warmest region: Baden.

What else is Germany crushing right now?
🍇 Spätburgunder: High-end, elegant Pinot Noir that gives Burgundy a run for its money.
🍇 Gutedel: A local specialty (known as Chasselas in Switzerland) that is crisp, mineral-driven, and the ultimate food wine.
🍇 Dry Whites: Bone-dry, structured, and sophisticated whites that will change your mind about German winemaking.

Ready to expand your palate? Check out Episode 155 of The Cork & Fizz Guide to Wine Podcast for a masterclass in German wine diversity! (Link in bio) 🥂

Have you ever seen “GG” on a German wine label?

If you want to drink the best of the best when it comes to dry German wine, you need to know these two letters. GG stands for Grosses Gewächs, and it is essentially the “Grand Cru” of Germany.

In Episode 155 of my podcast, we break down exactly what it takes to get that GG on the bottle:
✨ The Site: It must come from a “Grosse Lage,” the highest-rated vineyard sites in the country.
✨ The Style: It is always a dry wine!
✨ The Standards: Hand-harvested, lower yields, and strict traditional winemaking practices.

When you see GG, you aren’t just buying a bottle; you’re buying the pinnacle of German terroir.

Have you ever had wine made from vineyards in a forest?

Most people think of vineyards as wide-open, sun-drenched slopes, but in the Markgräflerland region of Germany, things look a little different. In my latest podcast episode, Max from takes us into his vineyards that are literally tucked into the forest.

Why does this matter for the wine in your glass?
✨ Microclimate: The trees provide a natural cooling effect and protect the vines from extreme heat.
✨ Biodiversity: Farming so close to the forest creates a balanced ecosystem that you can actually taste in the complexity of the wine.
✨Terroir: It’s a unique expression of Baden (the larger region encompassing Markgräflerland) that you won’t find anywhere else.

We’re diving deep into the magic of Markgräflerland and why this “border triangle” between Germany, France, and Switzerland is one of the most exciting wine regions right now.

Stop scrolling if you want to know what’s actually in your wine glass. 🍇

We’ve all seen the word “Biodynamic,” on our wine labels but few people actually know what it means for the wine itself. 🌿

In my latest podcast episode, I’m going deep into the vineyard with importer Lisa Tupetz () and winemaker Max of Weingut Greiner (). It turns out, the secret to a great bottle isn’t just what happens in the cellar, it’s the living, breathing ecosystem of the farm.

What you’ll learn:
✅ Why biodynamic wines often taste more vibrant.
✅ The role of natural systems in winemaking.
✅ How to spot the difference between labels.
