Let’s tackle food insecurity!!! Come to the UW Farm this Thursday and/or Saturday to help harvest for the UW food pantry! The gleaning shift begins at 9am. Run by our Food Security intern, Allison, you will learn food safety and harvest techniques! Locations are: Thursday at Mercer Court; Saturday is at the Center for Urban Horticulture. Produce we will be harvesting? Swiss chard, herbs, turnips, radishes, and kale! If you haven’t already, sign up to be a volunteer at the farm BEFORE you come to the shift (link in bio). Thanks everyone who turned out to celebrate 🌎 day at farm sites on west and east campus last week. Together we planted an urban orchard, pollinator flowers🌼, tomatoes🌱, plum trees 🌳 raspberries, and weeded and moved heaps of compost. A shout out to and who supported our efforts with funding and preparations. We still have more to plant but ! 🌎🤩👏👏👏🐝

Kaija has filled many volunteer roles at the campus farm - CIDF-funded Vermicompost Intern, Plant Sale collaborator, Dirty Dozen RSO Farm Club officer, Pizza Bake/Community meal organizer, TA for The Urban Farm class ENVIR240, CELE service learner and so much more. We will never forget Kaija’s positive impact and energy! Congratulations

Incredible day of farming, and birding! Thanks to all of our dedicated interns, student and community volunteers who helped us: prep tunnels for tomato planting, glean mustard greens for the pantry, seed arugula, seed 23 trays of green house starts, pull thistles and make flower bouquets!

Our post-shift birding group identified 32 species of birds in Union Bay Natural Area.

What an exciting time of year!
