McCarthy and Schiering Wine Merchants, Inc. We are a Seattle wine shop in Ravenna. Since 1980 we've curated our favorite wines from around the world.

A world of personally selected fine wine awaits your discovery. We opened our first retail wine shop in 1980 and since then have offered clients select wines that represent quality and value. McCarthy & Schiering Wine Merchants emphasize personal service in comfortable, friendly settings. We have access to the world’s top wines for customers who collect rare vintages. But our primary focus are customers who look at wine as a beverage to enhance meals on an everyday basis. Our goal is to help you find excellent wines that fit the flavor profile you seek in the price range that works for you. McCarthy & Schiering was recognized by Seattle Magazine as the best local retail wine shop for 2017. This Sat. Oct. 10, come meet Willamette Valley legend - J. K. Carriere w**emaker Jim Prosser - who will be at the shop pouring his latest releases.

Jim severely allergic to wasps which are a hazard in the vineyards of Oregon's Willamette Valley. But he chose the wasp as his central imagery as a reminder of mortality, humility, and the razor-thin line between life and death. He has some stories to tell about close calls.

Founded in 1999, J.K. Carriere has been dedicated to building classically structured, high-acid, Pinot noir and Pinot-related projects like rosé, bubbles and dessert w**e, plus mineral-driven Chardonnays, approximately 80% of which is from their estate vineyards and the balance from select, longstanding partnersh

This Sat. Oct 3, try w**es from two Spanish w**emakers who are redefining what's possible.

Pere Ventura, left, has a driving ambition to produce Cava that directly rivals the world’s greatest sparkling w**es.

Telmo Rodriquez of Bodega Lanzaga wants "to create a red line between industrial Rioja and human-scale Rioja," he told Decanter.

The two w**eries are from different and culturally distinct parts of Spain.

Pere Ventura is in Catalonia, Penedès, specifically, the undisputed global epicenter of Spanish sparkling w**e.

Bodega Lanzaga is on an estate in Basque country sub-region of Rioja, and focuses on terroir, instead of big oak and regional blending.

This is a great opportunity to discover Spain's w**e diversity and taste w**emakers elevating Cava and Rioja, for free.

This Sat. Sept. 5, come feel and taste that Endless Summer vibe at our free tasting of w**es from Domaine de Triennes.

The w**ery is a joint project by two of Burgundy’s greatest names - Jacques Seysses, founder of Domaine Dujac, and Aubert de Villaine, co-owner of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.

In less than two decades, they have transformed this stunning 113.7-acre site in Provence into one of the top w**e estates in Southern France.

This Sat. Aug. 29, come to the shop in Ravenna to meet w**emaker Michael Savage of Savage Grace w**ery and taste his latest releases.

With grapes harvested from his vineyards perched on Underwood Mountain in the Columbia Gorge AVA, Michael aims to make high altitude, high acid, low alcohol, old world style w**es that are true to their terroir.

His analog approach has roots in music, that he performs with his wife, Grace, and recorded when he ran a music studio before jumping into the w**e world.

"A lot of what I do in w**e, I learned through recording," he told W**e Enthusiast. "Learning how to not mess with things and trying to keep an honesty to what you’re starting with, whether it’s a vineyard or a song."

This Sat. Aug. 25 taste the latest releases from Woodinville's Rujaya, and learn a few things from w**emaker Ben Almquist, for free.

Rujaya is based in Woodinville. Ben's education in w**e started at the University of Kansas, where he took at course called 'the geography of w**e.' His curiousity took flight with visits to independent w**e shops like ours, in the midwest, learning from w**emakers about their regions and methods.

Ben honed his w**emaking and production skills working alongside his cousin at Almquist Family W**ery + Distillery in Seattle.

Rujaya sources fruit from some of the Northwest’s most compelling vineyards and turning it into w**es with both precision and personality focusing on Riesling, Rhone, and Burgundian varieties.

Ben will be pouring in our shop in Ravenna from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This Sat. Aug 15, we invite you to taste w**es from Il Mortellito, based in Val di Noto, in the corner of Sicily that lies at the same latitudes as North Africa’s arid desert climate.

Mortellito owner and w**emaker Dario Serrentino has always enjoyed the contrasts of this coastal growing area, which he calls ‘a desert next to the beach.’

Over the years, he’s learned to coax extremely elegant w**es from this receding coast of limestone.

Honoring regional grapes like Nero d’Avola, Moscato di Noto, Frappato & Grillo, Dario's cuvées are a must try piece of the Sicilian w**e puzzle.

For our free tasting this Sat. Aug. 8, we welcome back Scenic Valley Farms out of Oregon. For over fifty years, Scenic Valley Farms has been in the Willamette Valley and they are currently crafting some of the most compelling and quaffable w**es from the region.

The w**emaker behind these w**es is Gabriel Jagle and we are fortunate he'll be at the shop to lead this fun and informative tasting.

Gabriel was born in Rio de Janeiro and learned to taste w**e while working at Trader Joe’s and a few w**e shops in California. He moved to Oregon to learn about w**emaking and has been working in the Willamette Valley since 2008.

We'll be pouring from a rotating selection of Scenic Valley's latest releases from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Gabriel will be pouring from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
