Singing Frogs Farm

Singing Frogs Farm Singing Frogs Farm is a unique, no-till, ecologically beneficial, highly intense vegetable farm in Sonoma County, California.

Through our innovative, regenerative farming systems, including no-till soil management, we have more than quadrupled the organic matter in our soil (which means more nutrient dense food for you!) - all while producing over six times the state average of harvest revenue per acre per year and while bringing back tremendous, healthy populations of pollinators, beneficial insects and vertebrates (our

natural pest control). Not only do we use less water to produce our vegetables because of our supercharged soil organic matter, we also use NO sprays of any kind, not even organic sprays, and our awesome crew of year-round employees (not seasonal) have job security.

Our CSA is the 💚 of our farm and runs year-round. Each spring we bring in 3 groups of new members in April, May and June. We love engaging members in their farm throughout the year, 1st Wednesday’s Farm Walks is one of our favorites. Wednesday is CSA day and every 1st Wednesday’s Farm Walks of the month we offer tours at 2 and 6pm to walk the fields, harvest something seasonal plus some flowers and chat with Farmer Elizabeth about what’s happening.

Also we have a weekly newsletter (link in bio to our newsletter blog) with what’s happening on the farm.

This week’s CSA box has butter & little gem lettuce, red Russian or Toscano Kale, Kohlrabi
Raw Rolled Oats for our friends at SRJC, Summer Squash, Fresh Oregano or Mint.

We still have some space for the year for a June Start.

🐐🎂 Happy Birthday to Roma and Flower our beloved farm goats! They are the best lawn mowers around and bring a lot of joy to all the humans on the farm. They are our Covid Babies, born during the height of Covid 6 years ago.

They do the important property task of helping us keep down grasses and weeds in 6 pastures which we have around our fields and keeping our vegetative fuel load for fires down. They are an Alpine & Oberhasli mix.

🐐 Roma the Goat (short for Romanesco) is the Alpha of our small heard and she can be a little bossy, if you don’t know goats well please stay away as she may say hello with her horns. She’s also sweet and inquisitive as she is here looking up at someone on a ladder.

🐐 Flower the Goat is a big boy and goofy and sweet. He was born without horns as his dad had half horned kids and half not. As such we have a female with horns who’s our Alpha and a male without who’s not. Without horns, Flower has always been the goat that’s been able to stick his head through our fences and so sees them as irrelevant. He’s probably 200 lbs and he can jump any fence on the property if he wanted to. At the moment he does want to so he’s tied up a LOT of the time.

Flower and Roma were born two of triplets. Their brother Cauli passed away last summer as did their mom. Together the tree were Romanesco Cauli & Flower. This past fall and winter we’ve been working to try to increase our herd just a little. First we got two alpaca and they were cute but not the right fit (we couldn’t easily get them to pastures even after much patience and training) and then we took on two kids from Goatlandia: La Manche goats who we have named Sunna & Loki.

Dust bath of our resident River Otter 🦦 in the roadway between two of our major fields caught on tape by Maggie and Carolina (sorry for the poor quality… they were a ways away)!

As Singing Frogs Farm, we have a lot of singing frogs 🐸 in and around our 6 ponds which are connected to the Atascadero Creek. A couple times a year one or multiple will come up the creek and visit our ponds. This one was first sighted almost 3 weeks ago.

Farming with Mother Nature is of profound importance to us so that we can enhance ecosystems both above and below ground. When we find predators such as this river otter, we are even more thrilled.

Who’s Your Farmer? Elle!

Elle will have her last day on the farm today :( but we are super excited for her as she moves to Berkeley to work for the Berkeley Food Network!

Elle has spent 2.5 years with us and in that time was a crucial member of both our vegetable team and flower team. She also managed the nursery through the winter and was fundamental to our CSA program!

Elle is an absolute joy to work with in the field! Her kindness is contagious and her presence will be missed but we are excited to visit her in Berkeley and have her visit us on the farm!
