An unconventional yet highly intriguing fruit profile bursting with Asian pear, Rainier cherry, Fuji apple, pineapple core, and kumquat highlights a complex and surprisingly layered display pleasantly undercut by natural notes of dried straw, chamomile, and herbal tea. Hints of buttered brioche and salted soft pretzel gently materialize to reveal exciting leesy qualities enhanced in decadence by impressions of cinnamon, vanilla, and toffee. Wafts of sunflower and dandelion gently provide mild floral lift before suggestions of stoney minerality, honey, and crème brûlée gracefully appear on the finish. Impressively interesting and thought-provoking on the palate with an exciting combination of roundness and depth balanced out by invigorating crispness; exhibiting a contemplative yet refreshing presentation that is slightly savory and incredibly multidimensional. Medium-plus bodied with a slight hint of tannic texture backed by bright acidity. This 2020 "Hallberg Blanc" by Emeritus Vineyards is a unique and delicious white from the Russian River Valley.

Although this dark-skinned variety is made into red wine a significant majority of the time, Pinot Noir also has the potential to be shaped into distinctly delectable white wine when its grapes are quickly pressed and the juice is not allowed to remain in contact with the skins. This bottling, crafted by Emeritus Vineyards using Pinot Noir sourced from their estate vineyards in Sonoma's Russian River Valley, is an impressive example of the complexity and class that white Pinot Noir can possess. This contains a deep yet energetic core of citrus, orchard, stone, and even tropical fruits that are wonderfully complicated by soft florals, bready leesiness, and pleasant oak influence. This interestingly closely resembles a still version of Blanc de Noir sparkling wine, and is absolutely worth seeking out and trying. Excellent.

Have you tried white wine made from Pinot Noir?

You can't go wrong with Pinot Hill, and because one side of the vineyard faces west and the other east, the two sides create remarkably unique flavor profiles. The 2018 Pinot Hill East and West vintages are both a must-taste; grab your wines for Father's Day soon to ensure it arrives in time!
