For my friends who always ask how much beef will they get this is a really good perspective. Many people get confused on hanging weight, hoof weight and final edible beef weight.

Basically the simple avg math is

Hanging weight is 60% of live "hoof" weight. Hanging weight is the most common weight bulk beef is calculated on.

Net beef product is about 60% of hanging weight.

So example.

1000 lb hoof = 600 lb hanging
720 lb hanging = 360 lb edible beef

So a half would be 180lb, qtr would be 90lb, etc.

So when you think you may have been shorted use this criteria.
