Absolutely devastated tonight. 😭😭😭 Quarter to ping pong ball sized hail hit the farm tonight for close to 10 minutes. There is a lot of damage. Some may bounce back, but a lot of crops are most likely a total loss. Tomorrow we will access the damage in daylight and salvage what we can. Some stuff can be reseeded, but it will set us back for a while. It just crushed me to see the damage tonight because we have worked so hard this season and the farm looked it's absolute best ever. The kids have busted their tails off this spring and it just sucks that this happened. We had the same thing happen almost exactly 10 years ago. A farmers worst nightmare is hail. Please keep our farm in your prayers.

New baby this morning brings our herd to 10! Four years ago we bought our first milk cow after waiting over fifteen years to get one. Today we have five!!! Pinch me, because I must be dreaming. I've spent my morning sitting in the pasture listening to mama talk to her new baby and encourage him to keep up. Listening to him suckle and get the beneficial colostrum his body needs has been so peaceful on this beautiful, sunny morning. Mama is a bit unsure as a first time mama, but aren't we all! Everyone, please welcome Rocky to the herd!

Way too close for comfort! Casually planting rhubarb when I look up and see what I thought was a small funnel. I then noticed a bunch of dirt stirred up to the south of our place, which has been happening a lot today and thought it was just wind. Then my daughter heard the sirens. I have never run so fast. Our two youngest sons were working out in the pasture and it looked like it was heading straight for us. Thankfully it turned east and lifted off fairly quickly. Many prayers of thanks that our family and farm are safe. Hoping everyone else is too in the path of these storms.

Family day trip to Cedar Bluff Outlook and the Sternberg Museum in Hays. We found the geographical center spot of Kansas so we had to stop for a picture! It was great to get off the farm for the day, but lots of work ahead this weekend. Fingers crossed the severe weather tomorrow misses us!

The rain on Saturday was just what our pasture needed. The cows are so happy with the fresh green grasses that are growing. If you are one of our milk customers, you'll notice the color of our milk starting to change. When the cows are eating spring and summer grasses and not hay, the milk takes on a yellow hue from all the fabulous nutrients in the grasses. We also have a new lady to introduce...Betsy. Betsy is a Dutch Belted, also known as an Oreo cow. She due to calve this spring. This bring us to 5 milk cows, with 4 of them set to calve over the next 5 months! We have plenty of fresh, raw milk available in our farm store, plus veggies and herb starts. Our farm store is self served and open daily from 9am-9pm

Potato planting day and it's all hands on deck! 500 pounds of potatoes were planted, which included 5 different varieties. This equals just over 50, one hundred foot beds. Who wants to help dig them in July when its 100 by noon?😁😁😁
