Iv seen a few people in groups and personal fb friends losing chicks lately. I hate to hear it. Most of the people are keeping their chicks outside. And while yes it has been warm during the day the temps do drop in the evening. But most people say well it’s still mid to high 70s at night so I understand how they are confused.

So here is the thing that’s killing them.

✨Variation in temperatures✨

These are babies which are much like infants. They aren’t old enough to regulate their temperature. So even though they can get under a heat lamp or heat plate. They still need to be somewhere that has a constant and consistent ambient temperature. So being outside where the temperature rises and falls throughout the entire day they are struggling to regulate their temperature and sadly using what energy they have to survive and not move around to eat and drink.

✨If they cant move from under the heat plate or heat lamp because the outer area is too cold that means they arent able to eat and drink and get more energy which in turn makes them weak and pass

🚨 making sure they are the right temperature is #1
‼️ No animal can digest food or drink water if their temperature is not stable.

🩷I reccomend getting 2-3 of these devices. Keep one under the heat lamp and one in the cooler area of the brooder and another in the room or outside to monitor the temperature variations.

ETA: Chicks need the temperature in their brooder to be around 95 degrees for the first week, and then gradually reduced by 5 degrees each week until they are fully feathered, typically around 6 weeks old. Iv also added a chart for temperature and age information ℹ️

Happy Sunday!

With the holiday season quickly approaching I am wanting to give back from all the support you guys have gave me this year!

I will be teaming up with one of my favorite creators to raise money- Savannah at the to collab and raise funds to purchase gifts for people in nursing homes and a domestic violence center. Please keep an eye out on our pages on how you can help!

In the next couple of weeks please be on the lookout for some events we will be hosting and collaborating on together to help raise funds for- during this holiday season.

On top of this I personally want to help a family in the chicken community with kids this holiday season.

I will be using a month of my Facebook monetization to send gifts directly to them.

IF you know someone who needs the extra support during this holiday season reach out. I unfortunately can not help the universe, but if I can help a family or two it means a lot to me.

If you would like to nominate a family (or yourself) please email me. Tell me about them or yourself. Ages, genders, what they like, clothes sizes, their favorite toys, etc.

(This will 100% be confidential)

[email protected]

I’ve always wanted to use my platform for good and I’m excited to help people this holiday season.

I just went to buy some wood for my breeding pen expansion this morning and I had this thought to share.

You sometimes arent gonna make your money back.

Sometimes in this hobby/business we take a loss.

Between the feed, the coops, the investment in birds.
More times than we like to say it. There Is zero profit.

I can buy a hen for $300 and that value is what value I put on it. But trying to get that price from others on that bird a year later just might not ever be possible for me.

Buying a juvenile for $100 and then finding out it’s a cockerel. Guess what. I might not be able to sell it for $100 lol no matter how big the breeder it came from. People in my area just dont put that kind of value on a cockerel sadly.

Im just saying…
Get comfortable with not always making a profit.
Get comfortable with taking a loss
Especially in the probably first 1-3 years of start up if not longer.

Cause I can honestly say Iv probably been in the negative since 2021 😆 -🤫dont tell my husband

You are definetly gonna see a lot of loss and setbacks in order to get to the point of profit. The sooner you come to that realization. I think the quicker you can find more joy in the hobby..

You have to enjoy the journey in order to find happiness at the destination ✨
